Default Deck Gun ammo?

I’m using GW late 1940, my first couple of missions when I came across a small ship I was able to use the deck gun with the armor piercing ammo to take them out but now when I come across one it says there is no AP ammo even at the start of a mission too? I can use the deck gun’s other ammo, just no AP?

Manually man the deck gun yourself, and switch over the ammo type to HE and you'll be good to go. GW takes out the AP ammo, as U-boats historically did not carry it. Just HE and star shells.

Just as a side note....I have sunk ships with star shells.

Well, it went down like this and before GW. I was out of torps and used up all the ammo. Ship was still afloat. I used the 20 starshells at the waterline and sunk it. I used all 20 but hey, she went down

It didn't even take that many for me, but it was the smallest merchant. I was completely out of ammo except the star shells and sunk a small merchant with 12 of them at the waterline.
