Default Hello SubSimmers

Hello all, guess I am a late bloomer to sub sims but stumbled on SH3 a couple of months ago and have been playing it fairly religiously ever since.

I am a die hard flightsimmer and now I think I have found a second sim.

I had been simming SH3 with no mods started several careers and never made it to the end of any of them. Also during which I have read the book "Iron Coffins" which is a must read for U-boat buffs.

Stumbled upon Avon Lady's page and installed all the mods she had listed as the ones she currently runs and all went very smooth with that although it did take a little time. Sim runs flawlessly and first time I pulled out of port I was amazed at all the changes including the one that destroyed my boat when apparently I hit a mine whilst leaving Wilhelmshaven!

I also am runinng the latest SH3 commander and like it as well.

A few questions for you pros...I am thinking of starting a 1X career and wondered if any of you that did that had any tips for me. I read somewhere that running 1X only with all the mods can cause some bad things to happen to your sim. Also I really love all the mods I now have but would like the map changed back to the default map if possible. I think it is part of the RUB 1.45 mod but not sure. I just think that you should have something more than just a box on the map for a contact without having any idea what direction that box is travelling in. Also I have the NYGM damage mod installed and although I like it I almost want something different there as well. I really do not want to wait around an hour to see if a ship will sink after I torp him. I know it is supposed to be realistic but never anymore do ships "blow up" for me which did in fact happen in the real war when torps hit the sweet spot on certain ships. Again I'm new am will probably get flamed for that but just my impression of the NYGM damage model. Overall it is a GREAT mod and I know by reading its readme the developers hands were tied somewhat by limitations of the sim.

Sorry so long just wanted to say HI to the community and ask a couple of questions. Also a big thanks to Avon Lady for her little site that had the info on the mods. I would have been lost pretty badly without it! Also my sim is set up the exact same way as her page describes however I have a slightly newer version of SH3 commander than the one on her site.

Thanks in advance!

Ah, 1X is a pretty sore subject around here. Get The Grey Wolves 1.1a super mod and be happy! Remember to do a clean install...get rid of all orphan folders and the folder in MY DOCUMENTS named SH3. Get the 1.4 correct patch, then load in TGW mod. GWX will be out shortly to load up. It is in beta testing now.

Ships that take an hour to sink. You answered your own dilemma, hit the sweet spot in the GW mod and she will blow up and break in two. This mod was an attempt at realism and it did a find job of it as well! If you are looking for the one hit kill everytime here you will probably not find it as often as you like.

No one will flame you for your opinion on certain mods or aspects of the game.

Welcome aboard Swab!

OK I understand you want me to get GW's and I'd like to give it a try. Can you have multiple installations of SH3 on your hard drive?? Just name the second one something like SH3a?

Would be a great way to have one there just for trying out mods.

Welcome to the best Sub Forum.

Have a search of the forum and you will find plenty of ways to have multi-installs as well as the correct tools to accomplish that.

3 Supermods:
GW 1.1a
NYGM 2.2
U-Boat War Ace

Find your feet, then try them.

Enjoy your stay
