Photoshop can get that down to 700k or so by dropping to Medium Quality, you'll only lose a small amount of detail and color surprisingly. Resizing to 1024 can get you down to 300k. Personally I like the high rez shots.

Here is one that I did just using a screen-shot by Kylania from the regualr photo thread. I don't have the game, YET!, but the graphics and photos are making my try my hand with the microsoft photo-album, picture marker, wish-I-was-photoshop.
All I did was place it in black and white, and threw the contrast way up. This was originally a twilight pic. I've been having fun asking friends to date this photo.
