Default RADAR Tactics

I know that RADAR was used sparingly by actual fleet boats to avoid alerting the Japanese. In SH4 does the UI react to RADAR? If so, when should I shut it off? I would like to avoid constantly cycling the RADAR if it has no effect. Thanks in advance!

In the late war the IJN did get some radar warning receivers and they are in the game or at least in TMO. Some where around mid to late '44 I think so you are pretty safe till then. I have not made it that far yet so am not too sure of the date.

Also welcome to the boat mate.

Do your homework, it all makes for good reading. SH 4 is pretty histroicly accurate. Correct me if I wrong, it was sometime in 1943 that the japs figured out radar dection. The best way to go is, get the bearing shut radar down and race to it on intercept course and try to pick it up on sound then set up your torpedo track. oh where's my manners welcome aboard.

Get a direction and try to get there as quick as possible

If you get there and no sound, go for one more sweep

Welcome to the board - don't sink too often. Somebody has to clean down there!

The IJN enjoyed Good RDF capabilities throughout the war, but
local radar detectors didnt start to come out until late 43 and
sparingly at that.

The bases are what you need to look out for if your in range
and send a contact report expect a follow up aircraft or kaibokan.

Yep, up until early 1944 i had no problems with DDs bearing radar detection. Of course, for the allies it is completely different: they have them, they have them early, and they have them aplenty. In 'u-boat missions', which happens in 1944 an onwards, basically every freaking escort will have one.
