[FAQ] Place names and harbors in SH4 Mission Editor
I can't remember who posted the answer, one of the devs, but I thought it would be worthy of a FAQ or sticky.
Question: How do you get the place names and harbors to show up in the SH4 Mission editor? Answer: In the upper menu, in the editor, click on File->Merge->Ok (Don't check the box for saveable) ->Select (SH4 directory)/data/Campaigns/Campaign/Campaign_LOC.mis Cheers! I take it ticking the Saveable box stops them from duplicating?
Thanks mate, I was getting confused. This is most helpful! BTW, which way around do you do it, the Loc file first and then the mission your working on? Last edited by Egan; 04-13-07 at 05:20 PM. |

You have to load the loc first otherwise you can't see the harbors.
Then do your mission when you can see them to place your ships... JIM

I have discovered that checking the "saveable" box when picking up your harbors and names this way could produce a more varied and exciting mission because it overlays the background campaign on your own work. You can see this at work in my "Tokyo Express" mission (http://www.wolfwillow.com/nu/westwin...HIV/index.html) where the campaign activity considerably enhances play. The drawback is that some campaign elements may conflict with your own. For example, in crowded harbors a ship you place might be where the simulation has placed one, resulting in a collision or a ship simply not appearing. You have to run through your mission a few times to review and fix these things if not to your liking. I rather like being able to have it both ways. best wishes, Cpt. J. Hazelwood / SS Haddock |

Actually, I have never clicked this saveable box and my first single
patrol had many, many ships, planes, convoys and task forces generated besides the few things I put into the patrol myself. I am still testing it for any abnormal behavior and so far I will have a few things to change in the mission. I reduced the number of sighting reports and aircraft attacks to a more acceptable (realistic) level. Otherwise it takes too much time to get anywhere when TC is interrupted every 2 minutes.... JIM
