Okay, here is my weathered and dented repaint of the Gato, I've tried a few things with this one. First the dents on the outer hull, to get it looking a bit more like the real thing (this is based on some pics of the preserved Drum). Next the rust, most colour pics I've seen of stuff in the Pacific in WW2 shows considerable rust, and a sub going 6,000 miles to Japan and back is probably gonna rust a bit. Last, I've lightened the texture a bit to emulate the look that you get in all those technicolor 50's and 60's war movies, since I think it makes it look more like it is actually being shone on by the Pacific sun.

I see you have some draft numbers on there, were you able to get around the whole mirror texture thing where they show backwards on the port side?

Short answer is, nope.
Long answer is: I didn't think that at the range you normally see it, and the fact that it's usually masked by spray anyway, made it worthwhile bothering to change the reverse texture. I mean it's barely visible in that screengrab as it is, and I was coming right in on the bow to take that picture. If it bothers anyone, I guess they could airbrush it out in Photoshop in about half a second anyway. |

Hi Chock,
Maybe I am mistaking, but those textures look a lot like mine with some weathering and rust added. If these are my textures. Please credit me for my work in the readme. I spend a lot of times painting them from scretch. Thanks FooFighters |

Hi FooFighters, nope, you are not mistaken, I did use your (excellent by the way) repaint as the basis for this repaint with all the bangs and dents, since I thought it was the best texture around (and you might as well start with the best if you can).
I've just checked the read me file that I put with the download, and you are correct again, I did forget to mention that. Apologies for that, it was not my intention to mislead anyone or pass this off as completely my own work ![]() I have corrected this by uploading a new zip file which does credit you, which I originally meant to do, but it was 4am when I wrote the original Read Me and I simply forgot to do it, I hope you'll forgive my mistake. I've also updated the link on this thread so it now goes to the download with the updated read me, and I've also renamed the zip file so it's got your name on it too, FooFighters. I hope that everyone who uses my repaint will appreciate that it would have involved considerably more work without FooFighters' good work, so you can thank him too for this skin. Chock |
