I can't imagine a real time whole patrol but I exactly know what you feel. 1xTC is a totally different game. Today I've spent the whole day reading stuff about celestial navigation and trying to get my boat to the patrol point. I don't use TC more than 256 and travel times are long enough. But considering manual navigation and target finding without any indicators on map I need 1xTC. So most of the juice is real time.
OK got to change course in 3 minutes, I'm trying to find that small island SW of Lerwick as my orientation point... yeah am lost ![]() |

Hey Hadrys,
You beat me to it. While reading this thread I was going to bring up manual naviation. You are right, a 1xTC patrol is tailor made for setting your own course and using the sun/stars for navigation. It also brings about good use of the depth finding equipment at the nav. officer's station when the weather turns bad. That will definitely give you things to do in between contacts while running a real time patrol. One other benefit of a real time patrol is that you have a better chance of locating an enemy on your own since more sound check dives are done to break the monotony of the surface run. |

PS Do you have any idea of celestial nav? I was trying it the whole day without any success. I don't get that longitude part at all... |

It's a simulated sextant reading by performing a CTRL-left mouse click on the map's compase rose. That provides a spot to mark on the map what lat/lon readings you have. Since the .tga file for your sub is made transparent it doesn't show up anymore and the markings are used. I end up making all kinds of notations on the map during patrols to be ready in case the weather turns bad and I no longer am able to measure angles at sunrise/sunset.
Just like the satisfaction of a manual TDC hit on a ship, being able to reach a specific area or intercept a radio contact in the North Atlantic during bad weather is a great feeling too. |

But you must be ready for "Schiff Gesichtet!!!" ![]() ![]() But I have a wife and two children so I am not going to try that. Using 1xTC during engagements is a whole different thing, though, I do it that way (since the ship/convoy is sighted) because I need time for all plottings and calculations. Maraz |

I try not to compress time too much, but it has to be done from time to time.

So basically, if I understand correct, playing real time implies pausing when the player has to leave the computer. So, when do you save and exit?
And what if you have to leave or reboot the computer in plain middle of a depth charge and evasion maneuvers? Does saving and exiting alter anything? ![]() |

Weather is changing every 32h or 32h after last game load. So my advice is using pause and alt+esc when you must left the game instead of "save and quit". Anyway saving without exit do not reset weather timer.
