I once was pulled over by a cop (I've forgotten the exact traffic infraction) and when he approached my car window, he asked me the boilerplate question, "Do you know why I've stopped you?"...

I was in a peevish mood and and I responded, "Oh, man, I hate pop quizzes...""...

He was startled and paused for a moment and then burst out laughing; the net effect was he had a good laugh and he let me go with just a warning...

I common response I often encountered was "Have you got nothing else to do today?"

My answer then went along the lines of "Oh yes, plenty actually but that can all wait until I've written this ticket out"
