Thank you folks, these pics pretty much prove my point. Magnum's is the darkest, and still only part of it is actually blackish looking(and being a museum, I doubt that periscope has been raised or lowered in years). The other 3 pictures are almost completely shined silver, or painted white. Think about it folks. It would only make sense that the periscope shaft would stay almost completely clean. It works much the same as a hydraulic piston, in that the metal has to slip past a greased rubber gasket every time it goes up or down.
Now as Magnum pointed out, there of course will still be some discoloration of the metal(all metal will eventually discolor) so I suppose I could add some to the periscope shaft in the mod. I absolutely will not make the entire shaft dark, or make the discoloration very major, as that IS NOT how they really were. ![]() By the way, nozaurio, you explained yourself perfectly ![]()

Here are some textures that you could get rid of without losing too much content: curtain.dds binoculars_D.dds binoculars_N.dds cookingbook_D.dds bowl_D.dds And then, two big memory hog files, if you delete these, you should see an improvement in fps, but you will lose the grease in the engine room. diesel_engine_room_01.dds diesel_engine_room_02.dds Try the top five first, and if the fps is still too low, then delete the bottom two. Keep me posted as to whether or not this helps.

SteelViking greetings.
And concluded with the last of the gauges, I am sending back the files for view and edit. ![]() I've also been working with engine sounds of the submarine, which drew from the movie Das Boot, these files are: motor_Diesel_LOOP.wav and Submarine_diesel_exterior.wav I can send these two files for review, the file motor_Diesel_LOOP.wav I could not reset it, see what you can do to improve it. The file motor_Diesel_LOOP.wav I drew from the movie and put it as a sound outside, but actually in the movie sound comes from another compartment, but it seemed to me as sound appropriately placed outside... |

And here's a close-up clip of a U-boat diesel in action, a WWI engine, I believe... Oh, and on the note of the scopes (not that it really matters), doubtful they were stainless steel as the periscopes are pressure vessels and stainless is too brittle to be used for that purpose. That's probably part of the reason why the heads were painted, since they don't periodically go inside the boat like the shafts do. On a related note, in the pic of the kid at the scope with the painted shaft, pretty sure that's a fake scope. I know that shot is from in the conning tower of U-505, but they stripped all the hardware out and put up printed wallpaper, and as we all know, the scope in the tower should be the big fixed-eyepiece monster with the seat and pedals. ![]() ![]() The external sound for more noisy engines that were provided were less acute because they were within the submarine structure and in some ways almost under water, that way was very difficult to escape a lot of engine noise outside . As for the internal sound of these engines, there are actually two types, like the video that you sent me, with internal valve system and the external valve system, which he used specifically these submarines (I mean the valve system is the component of engine that open and close the inlet valve air / fuel mixture and exhaust gases from the engine). From what I researched, the external valve systems were much more noisy than internal, plus it made a sound almost unique to these engines, unfortunately there is not much information or recordings of these sounds where you can take something ... ![]() |
