Peabody this seems to be a good place to ask, I'm making the victory ship playable and its all gone fine (all fifty experimental hours of it) except the zon file. I'm using the NSS_S18 as a starting point and importing the NVV chunks to there, then sorting out all the IDs. I can't seem to get the 'SH3ZonesCtrl' chunks to have any impact in-game; i've imported all the NVV ones and wired up the parent ids to the right places. How do you manipulate them??

Any SH3ZonesCtrl that you place and link to the dat file will have an impact in the game. That is why I have said in other posts that the ship will take damage and will sink.
You do not necessarily "SEE" the damage in the damage screen unless it is in the .upc file for that sub/ship. And you may not see physical damage to the ship unless there is a damage image for it.

I doubt any of the NVV zones are numbered the same as the upc file.

[EngineRoom]
Category=Engines Room
Multiplier=5.000000
Flotability=35.0
HitPoints=150
Destructible=No
Armor Level=-1
Critic Flotation=0.300000
Critical=Yes
Critical Chance=0.05
FloodingTime=120
CargoType=None
Crash Depth=15

And in the ship.zon file. Are the spheres linked to hitpoints and the boxes affect damage to specific zones in the zones.cfg. I just don't understand the cause/effect relationship here.
I realize there is no simple answer to this question but any help is appreciated.

Thank you,

Peabody
Oh great forum gods, raise this thy necro thread so that I may have answers to this same question! Ok seriously though I'm trying to figure all this out for my 688i mod. it desperately needs a new damage model and I'm having trouble getting the flooding of compartments right. The engine room will take damage and start flooding but the fore end of the boat drops.
