Default Sonar contacts in GWX

Last night while on patrol, 1945 enroute to an56, in an XXI, I picked up the faint sound of a group of ships that also contained a small carrier. The sound that the carrier makes is very distinctive and having sunk two in previous patrols I was sure it was a Bogue in a hunter killer group.

I had my sonar operator (experience-10 patrols) make many sonar sweeps but he got no contacts. When I manned the sonar station, the sound was deafening and by my best estimate less than 20,000 meters away yet no contact ever showed up on the F5 screen.

I clicked many times on the checkmark in the upper right corner of the screen, while listening to the contacts, which usually will give me a contact line, but nothing.

Does this happen to other users of GWX?

yes, the SO is sometimes deaf... if you think the contact is REALLY within 20 km (sometimes, when you listen too long, it seems like the contact is closer than it really is), try switching between sonarmen (if you only have one, just put there a simple sailor, wait a minute or two and then switch back to your frist SO). or you can try to "yaw", I mean, move your sub sliiiiightly to the left and right but without moving forward or back. and just wait. you can also try a slight time compression.

I've had my SO go deaf before, too. I swapped him out for another sailor and he started reporting contacts right away. I figured the first guy was tired.

This is an old stock problem...you can try tweaking the sensor files, but I personally wouldn't recommend it
