just a quick question:
would it be possible to tweak the amount of renown earned for a ship depending of the year of the war? obviously it was more difficult to sink a ship in 1945 than in 1939

I have been looking for the GWX renown system in the old posts here but I didnt find any relevant info so I made it on my own. If someone else did this before or if the renown system is displayed somewhere in-game (they say you should be able to see it after pressing the F1 but it didnt work for me), then just ignore this post.

anyway, I highlighted red 3 or 4 cases where I was not sure about the type of ship. any help would be welcome. enjoy!
Thanks radus! Oh, and to the others, I sunk a neutral ship in a convoy accidently and I received NO negative renown for it and in another convoy I sunk a hospital ship and no negative renown, but make your own choices guys, maybe mine were just "fluks"

Default ship renown should ALWAYS be positive. It should NEVER be negative.

The reason is quite simple. Look at Basic.cfg, specifically the lines:

NEUTRAL=-1
ALLIED=1
AXIS=-10

These are multipliers. If you sink a neutral ship, the renown is multipled by -1. Sink an enemy ship and it gets multiplied by 1 (ie no change) and sink a friendly ship and it gets multiplied by -10.

Here basic mathematics applies. Thus if you set the renown to a negative value, you'll end up with the opposite effect to what you were expecting.

You may remember this being highlighted by the Hospital ship quite a while ago. It's renown was set to -10000. Thus when sunk, SH3 would calculate the renown as -1 x -10000, which is +10000. So you would *gain* 10000 renown, no lose it.

In other words, setting a negative renown for Axis ships will result in positive renown being awarded if sunk.

That's what you're looking for. http://files.filefront.com/Variable_.../fileinfo.html Make sure you read carefully the instructions as the file is used in SH3Cmdr and NOT in GWX. To use it you install it in SH3Cmrd and you run GWX via SH3Cmrd.
