Yes, I think I have time to look into flag.dat this week. I noticed one weirdness using the new flags with imported ships, the weird thing was that the British ships had un-animated flag, it was kind of frozen in place. Same ships with other nations worked well. I'll look into that too, I'm sure it's fixable.

So to make things clear, you are sending me the new roster (with all the new nations) and I'll check that the flag.dat has all the right nations? And if something is missing, I'll add it. (And there must be also flag texture in textures folder.)

Rongel, my files a bit messy right now as I merged the two mod. Right after I clear up the messs a bit, I will pm you a list of the roster, so hope you can help adding all new nations flags to the ships. I also noticed the frozen british flag, hope you can work that out.

Hi, I'm working with the new flags for the new nations. Thfeu58's flags are missing 7 nations that Zedi uses, so I started to add them. Zedi suggested that I post this public so others (especially Gap) can comment this. All results are based on wikipedia search.

So there are some problems if we try to use actual right flags. I think we should erase Israel altogether, there wasn't anything like that during the war years. There was a British mandate over Palestine but nothing like a real state.

With Lebanon we have to pick either French flag or the Lebanese flag, even if it's inaccurate. In reality it's flag changed in 1943.

Algeria's flag is just a basic French flag.

Namibia is also problematic. Basically it was just a state of South Africa. So either we don't use it all, or use South African flag (But we have already South-Africa in the game, so basically we can left it out).

Angola is pretty much the same thing, it was a piece of land that belonged to Portugal. So either we don't use it or use Portugal's flag.

So, any opinions? If you wan't to use all the nations, I can pick the most suitable flags and add them, I already have the flags. Exception is Israel which shouldn't be in the game in my opinion. I found really easily info on them by googling just "Flag of country" and checking the wiki page.

Yep, I had noticed the mistake too . In defside file I've changed it with British Lebanon. I know that it was a satellite state of UK, but is this a reason for removing it? Sorry Rongel, I don't see your point here . If you remove it you should also remove India and some other countries from the roster. Here it is the national flag used during the British mandate:

yes, national flag during French mandate was basically a variant of French flag with Lebanese cedar on its center:



In order to solve the problem with the flag changing after the independence, couldn't we split the country in two roster entries (FrenchLebanon and Lebanon)? by putting the appropriate dates in defiside.cfg we should be able to make Lebanon to "spawn" and FrenchLabanon to "despawn" after the independence. Same goes for their units. Not sure that it is the right solution though, just guessing but the same method is used in vanilla game for FreeFrance, that appears after Nazi conquer of France and desappears after Vichy Republic defeat.

Also notice that we have the same problem with some other nations featured in Zedi's roster. For instance:

Libya: italian colony at the beginning of the war and then British Military administration after '43 (Italian and British flags were respectively in use)
Albania: italian puppet state, then german puppet state, and finally socialist Romania (each of them using a different flag):







I know what you are thinking by now: Italian tendency to loose its geopolitical areas of influence is creating us a lot of problems, but don't blame it on me, please!

Correct. Even in this case, can't we create two separate roster entries: FrenchMorocco and SpanishMorocco? Here are the flags:





5. Algeria - was part of France, the correct flag is the basic French flag
yes, we could make it part of French territory. Though, its history is a bit more complex than other Europen power's satellite territories: after French defeat by Nazi Germany it came under the control of Vichy France, but it was liberated on autumn '42, way before France mainland liberation (summer '44). During this period I guess Algerian ships should have sailed under Free French flag. So, if we want to reflect this in roster, we should create two entries: FrenchAlgeria (from the beginning of the war to '42 and again from '44 to the end of the war, using regular French flag), and FreeFrenchAlgeria (from '42 to '44, using Free French Forces ensign).

I agree with you Rongel: during WWII the history of both these nations was strictly linked to the one of their respective mainlands, and they were using their same flags. So we could make them part of South Africa and Portugal, respectively. IMO there's no point in keeping them in the roster as we couldn't spot the difference, anyway!

Finally, for completing the list of nations facing the Mediterranean during WWII, I would suggest to add 2 more nations to the roster (if it isn't too much work!). They are Tunisia and Syria.
Tunisia was a French protectorate and during the whole war it used the same flag as the current-days one (actually it is the same from 1831) .
As for Sirya, like Lebanon, during WWII it was French mandate and it gained independece shortly after its liberation from Vichy regime, but unlike the neighbour country, even during French mandate I think it used the same flag as the one used shortly after its full independence:

Ok, hold on a bit. Things are already complicated and I dont really need more complication.

Yeah, was stupid to insert Israel.. I saw Haifa on map and inserted Israel without much thinking. I think at that time it was British Palestine or something but.. better remove it. Is no point to spend so much time with a traffic that is made by british navy anyway.

Same goes with every nation in this situation, for example is no point to work out FreeAlger, FrenchAlger or whatever if the ships were using french flag. And only for fishing boats is no point to use a separate entry. This should work if we would have time and energy to work out very fine details, but is not the case now. We are only 2 people working on this campaign.

I needed more nations around Mediterranean but not complications. So I propose to remove these nations and use only nation that has no issues like Alger, Morocco etc. Nations like Turkey, Spain, Croatia, Yugoslavia used their own flags so lets keep only these nations.

Actually, what I propose is to back up a bit and use only the roster from Terrain_harbour_flags_Mod_v1_2_1. Booth of you guys have that mod (if not, there is a link in the first post of this topic), so lets work out that roster. When I made the new roster was no intention nor plan to use Terrain harbor flags Mod, but now things are different.

So pretty please, help me out by making thing simpler and not complicate it more.. we are already overwhelmed by the massive amount of work on the traffic and stuff. Thank you.

Here is a new version of roster, removed all entries that just complicate things. Use this, because Thfeu version has also entires we dont use anyway, like Hungary, Slovakia etc. If Albania used their own flags during ww2, keep the entry, if not.. remove it. Same apply for Tunisia and Syria.. if they were using their own flags, lets have them.

But please no Free entry for countries that had no ships in convoys. Lets do a Free only for Poland, Norway and Greece and thats it. These 3 countries + Free France had ships in Atlantic convoys and they were pretty active in helping the war effort. Thanks.
