Default New Monitor, but will it work?

Thinking about buying a 27" or 30" Samsung LCD. But would SH4 be possible to play at 1920x1200 or 2560x1600 wide screen res?

I have a 27" Dell. 1920x1200 works fine alhough you will need a good graphics card. I use an 8800gtx for example.

Personally I wouldn't recommend a 30" 2560x1600 because even an 8800gtx will struggle a little in current and future games to run that sort of resolution. Of course 1920x1200 or even 1680x1050 will scale up to 2560x1600 but it isn't ideal imo....

Just FYI..

I can generally run most stuff at 1920x1200 with 16xAF and some AA. On the odd game I sometimes lower the res to 1680x1050 to get good fps with 16xAF. i have an AMD 4800x2 with 2gb ram, Windows XP.

Well...I used to play sorta ALL! WWII games...well war games in general, Strategy FPS you name it. Now...SH4 ALL THE FRIGGIN WAY!...maybe i will check out Crysis and those DX10 games when they come (and Company of Heroes with the DX10 patch, when ever they decide to release that )...but I will stick with SH4 for a loooong time, that's for sure. Actually read that the devs for SH4 was "THINKING" not saying they would, but thinking about a DX10 patch down the line...would be schweet indeed I think you actually talked me in to the 27" here, the price is sort a right, not cheap, but OK for some serious SH4 experience!. That's basically what I am after. Cheers for the heads up man!

Just to flex my rig a bit :p
E6600 @ 3.0Ghz, Ninja Scythe cooler (could crank it up but I am a heat freak me...always trying to keep it down) EVGA 680i mobo, EVGA 880GTX, 2GB OCZ DDR2 PC2-8500 / 1066MHz / NVIDIA SLI Ready Edition, Creative X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Fatal1ty Pro, Tagan 800W, 2x 150GB Raptor-X in Raid, Lian Li PC V1100B Plus II - black case

Currently using a Samsung 19" SM 940BF LCD so I really need something like that 27" to make it my day really

Those resolutions will "eats" your CPU and GPU ...
You can spect a FPS reduction....

Yes !

I have a 19" LG 1900R Phantasy line...

When i switch to bigger resolutions the FPS droop is very noticeable.

Imagine into a 30 "

Hi Guys

I love these monitor discussions I gather alot of info from them.

I have a 20" IBM crt and it plays games great. But..... I want to keep up with the times and will go LCD.

My questions is I was on a tech link and there was talk of a next generation of LCD without the mercury but LED "backlit" I thought it was a "Greenthing" they were talking but I don't want to go out and buy yesterdays technolegy either. Moneys not the issue but... don't want to waste money that I can spend on upgrades or games.

So keep this discussion going and maybe give me some input if you can

Thx

Hmmm, well I'm using a 20in Viewsonic widescreen at 1680x1050 and man does SH4 look absolutly amazing...
Only had the monitor a couple of weeks, but I would never go back to using a CRT playing games..
Have a AMD 64 4000+ with 2gb ram and the Nvidia 8800GTS, I have all the sliders turned up to their max, and nearly everything is ticked in the graphics options. The only time I take a bit of a hit is when I go over 4096x (I think) time compression.

Edit: No cropping here, the game covers the whole screen, and I am running on Vista Ultimate 32bit..

No croping here either. SH4, like most new games, was made to work in widescreen without a problem, other than the extra pixels the graphics card has to push. I'd hate to have to go back to my old 19" CRT.

I can usually cruise over open water at 3K TCed before seeing the staccato chronometer winding that tells me the card is being stressed.
