On behalf of the 24th Flotilla, I'd like to send our deepest condolences to his family and friends. Our thoughts and sympathies go with them in this terrible time.

Thank you so much Dave for all your outstanding job.

Rest in Peace

His death has come as a very sad thing and at the moment I don't know if the ROW-team will continue now that he is gone. Originaly I started ROW with Dave because we thought there was room for improvement on Silent hunter 4 and with Dave's entusiasm and ideas this mod has become one of the biggest mod I have ever worked on.

Respect and rest in peace Dave.

Think about it this way though, Kriller2. When the 'Add On' is released in a few months, current ROW files will probably not be compatible with it. If the ROW team doesn't continue with it then people will be forced to choose either the current game with ROW or the 'Add On' without ROW. I can hear the moaning now!

I dont think the add on will be the end of it.
most of what the add on will change arent
environmental changes. so integration may
not be that impossible later on. you never know.
Im an optimist though.

Agreed. When 1.4 came out, Dave was not able to touch it for a for a few weeks. I threw caution to the wind because I could not play SH4 with his work...it was that good. It worked fine...at least the textures and a few others. I think the pitch and roll mod part needed work. The camera needed work because of the increase in detection area to 20000. I do not see these getting changed again.

Yes I think alot of the textures will work with the new addon, maybe with some adjustments, the hard part will be to analyze the new scene file and all other dat-files refering to Daves work and change them to work with the Addon since this was Daves work and I don't know how he did it.

I think the Scene.dat file will work fine as well. Just my thoughs on it.

This is all I ask of UBI, fix the lightning!!!!!!!!! This is all Dave wanted after patch 1.4. It was driving him nuts. He said he PM'd some of the Devs but got no response. I advised Dave to just keep at it. This one singular thing is all I ask.

I hope you Guys are right. In my case, I'll get the Add On when it's released in order to support the franchise, but I'll only install it once the modders have created a full Atlantic campaign.......and assuming that ROW does actually work with it.

I have e-mailed Dan about the lightning.

Why doesn't UbiSoft just incorporate ROW's effects into Silent Hunter? Then Dave's contribution will be etched permanently into gaming history.

If the Add On is to be a retail purchase, then they would not be permitted to take ROW and use it without negotiating with the modder or someone authorized by him. Although Dave would happily have given them ROW for nothing in order to help others, I think it unlikely that Ubisoft's legal department would authorize inclusion of software that was not created in house.

When I installed that patch, I thought the same thing. I think Ubi just took the idea and made it their own with their own programming.
