I'm so happy, 2 years ago i tried to run SHIII+GWIII on my mac mini intel HD4000 but it was unplayable because there was so much graphic glitches.
![]() Finally I found a way yesterday... crying like a baby would ![]() ![]() (Sorry, but discussions of torrents and links to torrents are absolutely not allowed at Subsim - Sailor Steve) (Didn't know that official torrents weren't allowed... my fault - Franctireur) Last edited by franctireur; 03-09-14 at 10:11 AM. It's alright. Franctireur and I had a nice discussion and all is good. I didn't even notice that his link was to GWX's official site, so I apologize as well and here's a free re-link.
http://www.thegreywolves.com/downloads/ And WELCOME ABOARD FRANCTIREUR! ![]()

A few questions about GW / SH III
Hi everyone, my first post here. Man this site is huge - took me a while to figure where I should post this.
I have played and beaten Sea Dogs and SH II back in the day, and now I am playing SH III with Grey Wolves installed. It seems like a great game - I really am impressed by all of the hard work and dedication that must have gone into making this. Total respect for all of the modders. ![]() Here are my questions. 1. When I was visiting the museum, I noticed a fair number of ships have their turrets missing. The most obvious is the German warship Tirpitz, but there are a fair number of other ships (mostly armed merchants) that this glitch applies to as well. My question is, is this something I should be concerned about? That is, will the turrets on these vessels show up while I'm at sea? Or do I have to live with it? Does it affect their ability to attack? 2. I'm not sure if this one is because of the 'enhanced damage mod' or if it's been hard-coded into the game, but after nearly every aerial attack - if I am damaged by bombs or aircraft cannons - any dive results in an uncontrolled dive. I can usually go to flank and use the 'surface the boat' command to stay stable, but only at flank speed. If I slow down (because I'm trying to stay quiet), the boat begins to sink like a stone. Below about 200m, only by blowing ballast can I come up again. My guess is someone was trying to simulate a ruptured pressure hull, which is pretty neat. However, it also means the entire mission is now over, since remaining at periscope depth is now impossible. My main question therefore is; is there any way to remove this 'can't dive till your patrol is over' effect? I wasn't sure if it was the enhanced damage mod or it's from the basic game. (or maybe I'm just being a wuss and I should accept that pressure hull breaches are a real thing?) P.S. Going to a friendly port that is not your home base will fix the hull integrity (percentage of damage), but NOT the pressure hull (you still can't dive till you return to home base to end your patrol). Shouldn't this be changed? 3. On the crew maintenance/damage control screen, the new blue-colored background makes it almost impossible to see / read the crewman's name and other details for the selected crewman, as the black letters don't stand out against the dark blue background. ![]() 4. The manual is huge and richly detailed. I love it. However, there is a section in there about ports (enemy and friendly) that show mines outside the harbor. Since mines have no friends, I am terrified that I will hit a mine in a friendly port and my career will be over. Could someone explain how these mines work? Can they be spotted beforehand? How much damage do they do? Will my helmsman notify me I have entered a minefield? Can I avoid mines if I am careful? 5. Last but not least. There are a huge number of bubbles that rise from the sub when submerged. Not only can I not see though the front or back of my sub (with the periscope) through all the bubbles, but it's also causing me a lot of lag. Is there an easy way to restore the stock SH III submerged bubbles while keeping the rest of Grey Wolves intact? Well anyway, thanks in advance for any advice you can give. I am having fun with this game (and this mod), and plan to move on to a lot of other sea-based games eventually. Take care. |

Hello, any hope for refreshed GWX in 1920x1080 resolution ?
It would be great... Actually there is no alternative for old SH3. SH Online is poor, HAHD/ATWAR has uncertain future. SH IV and V even modded can't be compared with SH3. |

I have never ran at those resolutions, but have used some of the WideScreen Mods that run at higher resolutions.

Yes, i play with the MaGUI widescreen mod. Pretty nice, but on 22' screen it doesn't look great.
I only asked for attempt of giving new life to GWX3. Unfortunatelly i'm not modder, or programist and don't know how to do it ![]() It's possible , that in the short time we won't have good U-boat simulator. I love that open campaign mode in SH3, without stupid scripted missions. |

Thanks for the reply privateer, but Regarding uncontrolled dives; what I really wanted to know was, if any of YOU had trouble with your sub having a pressure hull breach (that's what I call it) after being damaged (which again, always seems to happen after an air attack that causes damage). I just wanted to know if it's something caused by a mod, or if it is hard-coded. I just didn't like to have to quit a patrol and return home all because an enemy plane strafed my sub. Note that this issue can also happen while being shot by ships while surfaced, but that sort of attack inflicts much more damage, so it's understandable. And no, I did not crash dive - please re-read my original post - if I am less than flank speed while being submerged, I sink like a stone. Regarding 'use USD to remove bubble nodes' - I'm not sure what this is - could someone please explain? ![]() Regarding crew maintenance background - I would most likely need the original background for stock SH III - I'm not sure the name of the file though. Regarding mines - so I'm going to have to alt-tab out to check my harbor maps every time i wish to enter a harbor...in order to avoid mines? Kinda frustrating, but I guess in a way realistic. But I wish that *friendly* ports had the mine locations already marked on the world map, at least. That would be realistic as well as convenient. ![]() Again, thanks in advance for any advice. |

Second, if you wait for the escort and follow him he will guide you safely through the harbor.

Also if you are within a 25 KM radius of the harbor you can dock. Sometimes thats at the fringes of the subnets and mines.

gonna try something different
Thanks for the replies fellas.
I was unaware of the pull down maps. I'm going to try something drastic; I had installed a few non-Grey wolves mods and i suspect that might be my problem. Like an idiot, I didn't back up my originals. So I will uninstall GW, then SH III, then reinstall SH III and then reinstall GW. Will start up my latest mission and sink to the bottom, taking a bit of damage upon touching the sand. If I can rise to the surface again after taking some damage, I figure I'm ok. And I won't install any non-grey wolves mods. (clarification; I just did a little experiment about an hour ago in a brand new mission where I sank to the bottom (50 meters at that location) and took just a tiny bit of damage. I was unable to rise without blowing ballast twice, and was unable to dive theraafter - so apparently this 'sinking bug' isn't just concerning aircraft, as I originally thought. I'll post what the results are after I reinstall everything) It would still be nice to get a lighter background for the crew / damage control screen, but I found to my relief that i could turn my monitor brightness / contrast all the way up, and I could see through my periscope while underwater. The bubbles are excessive IMO, but I can see, and that's all I care about at this point. Take care. |
