Default Time compression is max. 32

Forgive me if I've missed something very obvious but I'm just completing the first tutorial mission, October 1939, and I'm on my way to Kiel after sinking three ships. Time compression has just now become available but will not go any higher than 32. Since I've read in this thread of people using time compression up to, I believe, 2048 I was wondering how I might raise my TC availability to a number a bit higher than 32? I am using SH 5.

My thanks in advance

TC won't go high if there is lots of traffic around. Being near Kiel probably means there's lots of ships everywhere. Try sailing to open seas and the TC should go higher.

TC 1024 is the max you can reach without modding SH3. SH3Commander gives you an option to use even 4096 TC.

This generally indicates other ships are in range, hence the glass ceiling of 32 TC. Normally the TC display is green but in a case like this it turns red. As said previously, if you sail further out from Kiel, higher compression should be available.

I also rarely go above 128x myself. Seems the sweet spot in time compression for noticing contacts, etc. Works rather well for me, anyway.

Actually, for those of you who were kind enough to reply, my current location is in the middle of the Baltic a long way from Kiel although I am on my way there. As far as I can see on an expanded map I've no trafic with in many miles.

Some one mentioned that the number for time compression would be normally "green" and "turn red" in the presence of nearby traffic. In SH 5 my time compression shows only as a white number.

Any more ideas?

Thanks

128 tc normally @ 50 km scale. 1024 tc, same scale for, crossing Atlantic.

I like to try to follow a Kaleuns career as close as possible.

I read his book, Uboat.net Wiki and any other soures I can find then the long process of getting boat set up as he had it and crew.

As most careers I follow, used VIIB, VIIC and W. Luft useing a big IX boat it, takes a little tweaking in CFG files I put upgrades earlier that the game will allow it to be bought.

For example Kptlt Herbert Werner scrounged for a Snorlel and got it before, game will allow it for VIIC.

He wanted it for survival to keep his old batteries at the best charge they could get. Never used it tactically.

Erm, this is the SH3 forum, which may be why our answers are not working out for you.

I don't have SH5 installed so I can't answer your question I'm afraid.

Maybe ask in the SH5 forum?

Good luck
