Cruising near land: 128x
Cruising in somewhat contested waters: 512x Long range patrolling: 2048x or 1024x As for quirks, I have a crude recognition manual I'm working on. I use that and take notes on contacts, such as distance calculations, estimated speed and stuff like that. When nothing is happening, I doodle in the margins. Hand drawing units is fun, but I don't have a scanner.

IIRC you can up the maximum in SH3 Commander.
![]() I never have, because 1024 is plenty high enough for me when I'm in areas where I don't expect to run into any trouble. 128 is usually the highest I'll go when in potentially unfriendly waters. And I don't even bother with more than 8 or maybe 16 coming in and out of port, with all the other ships around to be sighted I just keep dropping out of TC every few seconds anyway. |

Yeah but if we got the SDK Id expect modders would go nuts and remake GWX and such just so it changes the source code and stuff and adds things like bottom hiding and weeds out glitches.

My computer won't run it above 1024, and that barely. When I'm in a patrol grid I might go to 512. In possible air patrol areas, as others have stated, 128. Near land it stutters badly if I go above 64.

I suspect you're wrong. The GWX team is either retired or working on new projects. As Jim said, it would require everyone to restart from scratch, and that's not going to happen.
