Conspiracy Physics, the less sense it makes, the more likely it is true.

Well its mass of the comet that counts. Comet tails are very large and thin, the largest ever recorded was over 1 AU in length- far larger than Jupiter but of much lower mass.

Because they are developing a missile that will replace all their SLBMs its a huge deal for them. We tested dozens of missiles when developing Polaris.

I realize it is a matter of mass and density, but the claim was about the size of the asteroid, not the gasses it sheds when hit by the Suns energy.

Well one of those loons in a youtube vid claimed the comet was twice the size of Jupiter when only its tail was larger than Jupiter.

But it was supposedly massive enough to...what, cause a solar flare? Surely if it has that sort of influence on the sun (Don't ask me how), it must've effected the nearby planets...

Well it receded back towards aphelion like the 500 or so other sun grazing comets SOHO has imaged.

The timestamps on those images say 17th to 19th of February 2003. Guess I won.

Who the hell is claiming that the comet did not pass the Sun?

Edit:
About the erruption, astronomers say it is just a coincidence, a coronal mass ejection coincided with the comets pass, which hit the comet and its tail ionizing some of the gas. The comet then headed along its way. No mystery, no Planet x, no coverup, no conspiracy.

And your evidence for the image being altered is?
Quote:
Bernhard Fleck, a SOHO project scientist, said it is common for delays to occur in posting images to the SOHO Web site, primarily because the public release of the large number of photos is done without funding and on a mostly voluntary basis. He said a heavy snowstorm in the Washington, D.C. area on the days of NEAT's closest approach to the Sun prevented most scientists from getting to the office and processing the images.

If no 2003 comet neat , no mass solar flare, no altered nasa video, no southpole telescope, no failed russian missle, no Norway Spiral, and we wouldn't be having this conversation.
