I love RFB 1.31 except for two things:

1) I really like the way TMaru remapped the hotkeys to be more in line with SH3's layout. This was a real help for those of us who play both sims. Is there a way for me to do this myself?

2) I prefer to have sonar contact lines drawn clearly on the NavMap, and even to have warship contacts done in a different color. I think this better reflects what a tracking team would be doing with contacts. Is there a way to get this style of sonar contact lines in RFB?

Thanks!

I agree entirely.

Remapping the keys for SH3 players is good for SH3 players but I feared it would be confusing for everyone else. There is a way to do it, but it means learning about the commands.cfg file. It's not too hard, but it's not all that easy to explain either. I'm sure someone here can point you to a thread that discusses it..

Yes. You'd have to disable the NoMapIFF mod - the part of RFB that controls the map contact displays. I'm sure others have details of how to do this as quite a few people like to see more info.

Yeah, I took out the NoIFF mod. Just look at the files mentioned in the readme for that mod, and do not install them . . .

Is this for 1.3 now? The first posting says:

This mod is to be used with Silent Hunter: Wolves of the Pacific version 1.2. It may not work properly if you don't have the correct game version installed.
But it looks like it's been updated. But maybe it hasn't.

Thanks! And just removing these files from the Mod before installation won't conflict with anything else in it?

I didn't update all the post, but the mod is up to date.

One thing I noticed with the 3.1 (after having played the stock for a while), IJN ships were pretty much spotting the periscope, it seems, every time I stick it above water. For example, in the Palawan Passage single mission, after successfully sneaking into the middle of the formation unnoticed, the moment I stuck the scope up, every secondary battery with in range opened up.

Similarly, in my new career, I had small freighter spot my scope 2000 yds away while I was at 3-4 knots in a hazy overcast.

Yes, they are shooting at me when they see periscope and that's cool. No more sneaking scope up in the ports This, the radar graphic refinement and slow to 4x when in ports are the major updates in 1.3:| Still invisible crew, still bathtub effect, still radar on when it's off... arrgh.
Hey Beery, do you play LOTRO? Can you reffer me at ther website? It's the only way to get trial serial No.:|

Well, i'd argue that a single cargo ship should have very little chance of spotitng a scope in rough seas and fog, especially when I looking through the scope can barely see them.

Just did one patrol with 1.31 and was spotted in port waters - sub barely under water and in that case I think it's 'real' that they were shooting at me.

I agree. In fact I'd go further. Contrary to many people's complaints that the 1.2 visual detection was set too low I'd say it was about spot-on. SH4 version 1.3 has catered to popular demand while making the game less realistic and less playable. The whole point of a periscope is that you should be able to pop it up within 1000 yards and most often it WON'T be seen. Lookouts are scanning the horizon and 360 degrees around the ship and all the way from the horizon to the ship. If the sub is stationary the chances of seeing a periscope are poor even at 20 yards in broad daylight in optimal conditions!

It should not be easy for a ship's crew to spot a periscope.

I don't even know how to mod this. I kept the AI visual abilities the same from 1.28 to 1.31 so that's not where the devs made this change.

This sort of stuff really pisses me off. I mean in my view this was something that didn't need fixing.
