Great! Thanks much. I'll try that right now.

Mark

Hello,

The game setting are not available for a career. In order to define the parameters of your career you have to choose them in the Captain's desk before starting a mission. Just point to the radio on the the rack on the left of the desk... and make your choice. That's all! Now you can begin your career!

Good hunt![/quote]

czACHa, ....
and all that nav officer does is stand there and stare at a friggin map. This would be a great addition to the game. Too bad they left this for the player to be responsible for. A real buzz kill!

In SHIV, you never know how much range you have and the voyage from Pearl to Japan at 1/3 sux!
With refitting at Midway you can get to Japan at 2/3 with more then 50% gas.

As far as I'm aware, RFB's Mk.10 torpedo is exactly the same as stock SH4. Regarding the Mk.14, RFB has it adjusted so it acts like a real early war Mk.14 torpedo - in other words it's only a slight exaggeration to say that you should regard it as a miracle if it ever sinks a ship.

RFB also adds in patrols of the Marshalls, etc, but there is no traffic there in the RFB campaign files that I see (the waypoints look pretty "stock."). I was thinking about adding traffic to both those areas soon and didn't want to reinvent the wheel. I was also thinking in terms of what might be most RFB compatible if I did so...

(hey, I'll admit it, I want to play easily with my campaign layers on top of RFB, lol.)

No traffic has been added yet. There is some stuff going on - I've seen small fishing boats, but nothing worth sinking. If you want to add some traffic to Attu I'd be glad to use it in RFB . The photo mission desperately needs traffic added so that we can get a completed mission result. The only thing I'd like would be that any traffic added should be extremely sparse as the Aleutians campaign was quite uneventful - I'm not sure but I'd be surprised if any sub stationed there got any sinkings at all. Sometimes subs get sent to patrol off Kodiak island and these definitely shouldn't see any Japanese traffic.

Regarding the Marshalls, I'm not sure RFB has any extra patrols there - though I could be wrong - my memory is hazy on it.

I think Tater's work on layers is great! As for me, I like doing that stuff, but with a 4 year-old at home I find it hard to apply the sort of concentration that campaign layers need, so I've left campaign layers alone (apart from adjusting the files in the UPCCampaignData folder) for fear that I would royally screw something up.

Hehe, I have a 3.5 year old and a 11.5 month old here, beery, I know where you're coming from. Messing with layers for an hour or so is my relaxing time after family time.

<G>

Boy or girl? (I have one of each)

So if I subbed just the layers, and not the UPC stuff, it'd be gold, huh? Also you have some patrol objective folders. I ask because RFB replaces all the random campaign files so I assumed they were changed.

I have a girl. I must admit I plonk her in front of the TV while I do my modding, but I have this fear that I'll be in the middle of some complex change when my kid starts screaming and I find her and the two dogs wedged underneath the TV cabinet, all covered in puke, strawberries, dog excrement and whipped cream or some other equally interesting combination of food and fluids.

Yeah, if you wanted to add some Aleutians traffic that would be great! The only thing I'm worried about is merging it with the RFB campaign layers. It's probably something you're very comfortable with at this point, but I get a bit paranoid whenever I think about significant changes in massive files like these. If it can be done in the patrol objectives folders alone that would be great for me, but if it has to be done in the regular campaign files I guess I'll just have to try to overcome my paranoia.

Regarding the Marshall Islands, I think I changed the random campaign files for the Marshall Islands just so the text applied to pre-war missions (i.e. so subs weren't tasked with sinking Japanese ships before hostilities started).

Thanks for the birthday wishes folks. I've had a great birthday week - left alone with my XBox while my wife (who took the week off work) looks after the kid and cleans the house - brilliant!

I've been playing 'Fight Night Round 3' (a boxing game - I hate boxing but I like boxing in a video game), 'Top Spin 2' (tennis), 'Just Cause' and 'Pirates of the Caribbean'. But my favourite game happens to be the one I bought for my daughter - 'Viva Pinata'. It's awesome! I've never had this much fun with a sandbox-style game and I certainly would never have expected a kid's themed game to be this engaging. I often get tired of the button-mashing of arcade games and the tension of simulations sometimes gets to me so a sandbox game like Viva Pinata is a nice change.

Right now I'm hoping that the devs take their time with the next patch, 'cos I'm having a lot of fun with other games and I must admit I'm a bit intimidated by the prospect of updating RFB, but never fear folks, when the time comes I'll be up to it.

Happy Birthday.

You mentioned earlier re elimination of the decoys capability in your mod because it wasn't documented. I vaguely remembered reading somewhere that CPT E. Fluckey commander of the USS Barb, shot a dead Aussie from the tubes because the Barb couldn't afford to surface due to enemy aircraft in his vicinity and as a result couldn't give the chap a proper send off, well, it is documented in his book, "Thunder Below".

I had to re-read the book, but I also found the page where the Barb also used decoys. It's not just hollywood hype, it really happened.

Someone from RFB team please, tell me something about escort behavior. I've noticed that thay are quite ineffective, morover they are blowing away their depth charges launchers by too soon explosions quite often. Can you confime that or I just mesed up with too many modes and shall reinstall game.
