Beery, one other good menu button to add to the Watch tab is the "Nearest Visual Contact" command. This is a very common command one uses when attacking on the surface, and it'd be nice to not have to use a 2-key combination every time I want to use it.

Speaking of that command, is there any way the report can be changed so that the officer gives the range in yards and not in feet?

He gives the range in feet? That's pretty messed up. I dunno - it's probably beyond my ability to mod. I just hope the devs get around to fixing it so that the game isn't giving us feet or metres instead of yards and kilometers instead of miles. You'd think that would be one of the first things they'd address, but apparently not.

I'll see if I can get that nearest visual contact button added. It may take a while though as I'm taking a week or two off modding SH4. I'm going through an arcade game phase so I've been playing Battlefield 2142 and this week Top Spin 2 (the PC's first real tennis game, just in time for Wimbledon!). I also had my birthday this week (I'm 45) and I got an XBox (yup, more arcade stuff - don't worry, I'm not giving up on realism - just getting this arcade bug out of my system). The XBox is really to enable the family to play games - my wife would rather be dragged into the gaming world than be a computer widow and my daughter wants to get into computer gaming at the tender age of 4, so I figured I might be able to get a Spongebob game or something for the XBox for her.

Personally I'm against this command. The direction only, not range. If it would be possible to obtain only estimation with level at least 300 - 400 meters that is ok, but as far as I now this command from another modes it is exact. To easy for me.

It is an easy fix - just use minitweaker to change one cameras.dat setting as follows:
RadioRoom_Hydrophone
AngularAngle = 57.265 [should be set back to stock: = 75 ]
That will pull you back far enough so that you can use all the buttons as well as see the dial - I like the way it looks close up, but I don't like having to move around to use the buttons, so I pulled it back on mine.

Good luck!
Sorry Panthercules,

Can you please explain me how change a *.dat file like cameras.dat with minitweaker... it opens only *.txt files! (I download SH3 Mini Tweaker... is it the program you use or I will need another. If yes, where can I find it?)

I'm really dumb but I would like to pull back camera from radar.
Thank you for your patience

Take care

Now that I think about it, this can be modded to avoid getting a precise range estimate from the watch officer. Open up your menu.txt file and go to line 4616, and paste in the following text:

4616=Nearest visual contact at bearing %03.0f!

Now your watch officer will report the bearing but not give a precise range. It's not the best solution (better would be to have the "long/medium/short range" text), but this will do for now.

DON'T FORGET!!!! GO TO THE DIRECTORY OF THE FILE YOU TWEAKED IN SH4
AND LOOK FOR (IN THIS CASE)

"Copy of Cameras.dat"

Delete that or BACK IT UP. BUT DON'T LEAVE IT IN THAT FOLDER AS THE GAME WILL USE THAT INSTEAD OF THE NEW TWEAKED FILE!!!!

I have a little problem, I cannot load any tweak file because there is nothing to load in this window... your exemple is really easy to undestand but in my case I can't go to point 3...
