The objective still remains the same. It's just that the message text needs to reflect the sub change. I agree that it would've been handy to know first off that the 206 was the objective. From memory, the SO does report a 209 in locality but I checked my source documents and it showed that in DW the only German SS Diesel type sub was a TYPE 206A. I acted upon that considering as you said that the 206 has towed array.

A minor flaw really but also an unplanned deterrant or was it planned to test our quick thinking?

On the first mission I took the briefing to mean we can't move from PD. Is this correct or have I read the words completely wrong?

Good point, but hard to say for sure. On one hand, you can get 2 lines on the SA before you're counterdetected; on the other, there is only a 3hz difference when the freq's are in the 1500s, and you can't zoom in on the high end of the scale. My feel is that it wasn't intended that way.

Great! I'll get there myself at some point. I think I'll start mission#2 on Saturday evening. I think I'll take a different approach to thinking each scenario through before jumping in. I can't wait to report the same as you.

If the german sub in mission #2 has a towed array, my failure to complete that mission is suddenly understandable. I navigated my way to his six o'clock and attempted to close with him as slowly as possible, but I was counter-detected every time, even when I went under the layer. Well, I guess I'll just have to try something else...

Think about it, what does a towed array pick up and how can you get in range before you are detected.
