And does anyone have the path for SH4?
Is it
C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunter4
?
I don't have it installed.
But I have the 4 Gig patch ready to build for SH4.exe

C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific

That's for XP. For Vista or 7 I can't help.

Thank you Steve.
There's a browse button for installs to other folders.
That's for multi installs, and Vista, Windows 7 installs.

SH4 version 1.5 patch is here:

Okay I just installed SH3v1.4 + GWX3 on my rig again since updating to Win7 64-bit. If I'm understanding how this 4GB patch works, I just run the appropriate .exe file from the download, and point it to the game folder with the .exe I want to patch, and it does everything? Cuz that's what I did.

I'm just wondering if there's any way to tell (by looking at the game files) whether or not it "took" - does it create a backup of the original sh3.exe file and store it somewhere?

It does not make a backup.
You should already have a clean backup of SH3 anyway, right?

Oh, absolutely. I run my SH3 setup.exe and install it to an "Original" folder and then copy the game folder into other directories for playable and "test" installations.

I did get the "succesfully patched" message at the end of the process tho' so I guess it all went okay. I suppose I'll notice the difference when I start installing mods and playing.

Stupid me thought a patch had been released that required 4GB of hard drive space...

Thanks for the patch.
As you propose a SF free version, i redone a search for the "official hack post form ubi" (funny things i thinks); i have the good one, ouf!
As they propose this strange solution on an offcial forum by a official moderator, i didn't understand why the didn't really propose a safe one.... Or perhaps i did not find it.

My own link for the "LAA /3Gb" subject:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff556232.aspx

http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=112556
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/64-bit...iew-31535.html

And two french articles:
http://www.presence-pc.com/tests/vista-gere-4go-22858/
http://www.zikmao.net/2010/09/optimi...windows-7.html

I use the "/3bg tweak" on vista 32bits, and for the moment i had no problem. Some 32bits game are LAA ready by default.

bye

I use LAA (Large Address Aware) to patch any .exe and get any info

YES....it will backup the original sh3.exe

At least this version does:

(e.g.: "4gb_patch file.exe"). It automatically creates a backup copy of the original executable.

I used Privateer's patch from the link in the first post, and according to him it doesn't.

You know how it goes, if you opt for the "off brand" merchandise you have to make do without a few features.
