Take Silent Hunter III.
Now, picture every bug and glitch gone. The graphics tweaked and corrected. Character animation spiffed up. All the advanced and improved accessories of the mods and supermods incorporated. Some of their features selectable from the menus, like 'merchant vunerability and sink rate', 'escort AI ability' and others, so it never is an 'all-or-nothing' setting. Now, go back in time. Back when SHIII first was released. But instead of the game we all know and love, it having all of the above. In other words, if back then SHIII had had your 'wish-list' of things for your perfect idea of a WWII U-boat sub-sim, what would you have been willing to pay for it? I already get all of that with GWX and NYGM.
![]() I'd probably pay up to $60 for a "Complete Silent Hunter" which included a "whole war ocean" and was compatible with all current SH3 mods/tools but also included SH4's improvements. And a cloth map and THICK and useful manual! ![]() But I don't think we should pay for bug fixes at all and content we get from the community. All Ubi needs to do is give us a robust and extendable framework and 40 hours of fun, we'll take it from there. ![]() |

I'd actually pay $121 for a complete Silent Hunter III with everything on the wish-list implemented. I know it'd never get done, though.

I would gladly pay more than $120 if it lived up to expectations.
Unlike most people today that think that software should be given away for free, I'm one of those strange people that actualy value software. I think it's ok to pay for hardware, but I think it is even more important to pay for software. To me, software is king, and it is the sole reason for me even having a computer. If I'm willing to pay $300 dolars for a video card (built out of plastic, some metal pieces and some silisic sand) just so that I can play some cutting edge game (software) then I should be willing to pay as much for the software itself... of course, I wont pay that kind of money for incomplete or substandard software though. |

I've already paid $40.00 for SHIII, when it should have only cost $20. It should have been finished, bug free, with correct graphics but it wasn't. That's why 3 patches were needed plus mods to make it more playable and enjoyable. Ubi and the Devs quit support for it way too quick. Sorry but the truth is the truth. Now if it was a complete and finished product as it should have been, I'd pay $60 for it with Super mods included.
Shoulda, coulda, woulda.... it's all in the past and nothing can change that except the mods we have now and the Super mods being worked on. Be careful what you say, Ubi could downLoad all that's been done since it's release and then charge us all for it as an upgrade. Just hope SHIV is finished more than SHIII and better out of the box. But I've got a funny feeling it won't. This time I'm not rushing out to buy SHIV like I did with SHIII.

I said I'd pay $60, but as some others have said, I might go more if it had all the goodies included.

![]() However, it didn't take me long to decide I wanted it to run better. Three hundred or so bucks later (new video card and more RAM) and I don't regret the money spent. And the only reason I upgraded was for SHIII. But like you said, the only purpose for a computer is to run software. People (and busineses) spend countless hours --and money-- to develop their product, and deserve to be recompensed for that investment by having it purchased. And the better the product, the more it is worth. If my 'dream game' was made and on market, I would have no problem spending $200 or more for it . . . IF it met my expectations and performed as advertised. |

I do agree with your points, but if SH3 is going to bill itself as the "king of submarine simulations" you would expect all of those features. Therefore, I don't see the reason to pay a premium over what the average cost of a game is, i.e. $40-$60. I applaud the modding community for adding more in depth realism and immersion, and the way I see it, adding things that should have already been there!

On the other hand, I just remembered what I DID pay: since I had to buy a whole new system just to play the game, I actually paid around $1000!

I'm not sure I'd pay $120 for the complete shabang, but my dad would with enough persuasion (i.e.-promises of doing extra chores that in reality will not get completed to soon because I'm too busy sinking enemy merchant shipping and trying to crack through the tough places lol)!
See, I barely met the minimum specs when I first got SH3 for my birthday. Sure, it worked, but my FPS was low, and generally the game quality wasn't great. However, I've since upgraded the compy to two 512 mb DDR RAM sticks, AND gotten an NVIDIA GeForce 6600 that satisfies me. Ich wunder wenn der Britischer weiss was wir bis sein? *Beobachtet den Teppich der Schiffe er versenkt* Offensichtlich nicht jederzeit bald! LOL

![]() reference totally improved sh3--I would pay near the top end. I don't play too many games or sims but counting up the hours I've had in this one--$100.00 isnt bad for the continuing use I've got out of it.

I assume you are talking USD? In Australian Dollars $80 to $100 is the going rate for a new game regardless of whether or not it is finished/polished. I wouldn;t pay any more than that even for a "perfectly working" game.
