Okay, sorry if this is an old question. My nights are too dark, the watch oficer is able to spot contacts several thousands meters before it is possible for myself, which makes tageting on night surface runs impossible. I have tried running the NYGM mod and loved it and it's light nights, but my computer is too low on mem to run the mod, which is why I had to uninstall it again. But does anyone know how to manually make the nights lighter? Or point me in the direction of some small mod that does? I know about Markhimovs mod, but the horizon is still one black pitch only with a small light around my boat as is somebody is holding a torch over it

The dark in the nights is mainly caused by clouds textures, when no clouds, you will have a better night.
Try changing clouds textures. If not, you nedd to open the enviromental and sky files with Unpacker program, unpack the textures, there are some little squares, the top left one is corresponding to the night hours, in the sky files and into the env files. Edit this portion of the graphic to change sea and sky surface textures, to have a more clear background into sky and sea surface, this will give you a better contrast between the background and the ship silouette. But take in account, in stormy nights, with dense clouds textures, you can do nothing for to have a clear night. Download my enviromental files here.... not sure if they may produce conflict with your current Visibility Mod in use.... but any way you can try. If not, you need to edit yours manually as explained above.... http://rapidshare.de/files/36453300/Env.zip.html Last edited by Redwine; 10-12-06 at 07:06 AM. |

the heaven is stored in the sky color atl.dat
just unpack it and change the color of the sky tga in photoshop. changing it has also the effect of a brighter night. |

Easier way is to turn the gamma up on your monitor.

I found this to be a problem as well, but I resolved it fairly easily by turning the lights off in the room, which were upsetting my night-vision, and using a tiny single AA flashlight to see the keyboard. Works like a charm :-)

I'm actually having the opposite problem....which might be a solution for you....my nights are pitch black up until around 3:00am then the sky gets light as if it was dawn or a stormy day.....all the ships that I couldn't see before...can be seen pretty far away....yet visability for ai is as if it was night....where they can't see you.....and the spot lights can be seen as if it was night.....
The only sky mod I am using is "ail skymod v2"....anyone know if this is typical for this mod at 3am? this happends when its stormy with clouds.... so I think it maybe the clouds from this pack that cause it as the above post suggest. but, what has me confused is its been stormy the entire night....so if it was the clouds wouldnt it be bright at 12-2am? it goes from pitch black to where you cant see in front of your bow....to the grey skys and large visability you see below... I am just wondering if this mod is supposed to be this bright or if it may be something else that is causing it. to me it seems like this should be the lighting at about 6-7am...not at 3am.... ![]() ![]() ![]() Same exact location 1 hour and 20 minutes earlier...... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by Tikigod; 10-13-06 at 04:16 AM. |

May be mainly caused by high latitude and the year season, at high latitudes and in summer, you will have not a real night.
Do you remember your position and the date ? |

Up really far north it should not get dark (mid-summer) or light (mid-winter) at all.
So it might have more to do with season and where you are.

Tikigod: as Redwine said it might be due to your location. The time listed is always Zulu (Greenwich) time. If you pass the cursor over the clock it will tell you your local time.

Is it possible the scene.dat has something more to do with it?
THe reason id suggest this is because ive been using one version of the sky/sea textures and a 16K visual range scene.dat. I tried swapping the dat with the one from GW11a and my nights looked just like GW's, only it wasn't using their textures. Put the old dat back and my nights were just like they were before (brighter). |

I have opened the scene.dat file and it contains 4 tga's, one for the sun, one for the moon, one for fog and one called N00.tga. I more think that it has something to do with the 16 km visibility mod, which I cannot take advantage of because of my low end computer

They are from some Vis Mod but not remember wich one, with some textures modified by me. Good luck... please coment results. ![]() Last edited by Redwine; 10-18-06 at 11:04 AM. |

I use Marhkimov's 8k visability with light night & visual sensors set to 16k & works very well, however the 16k visability with light night does not have a Light Night!
