Default SHIV's sound engine?

I didn't see anything via a search here nor any new details on Ubi's site for the game.

Does anyone know or hypothesize about what sound engine will be used in SHIV? Only reason I ask is because I recently found that Blazing Angels uses Xact from Microsoft and it's a Windows XP-only sound engine-- I could run the demo but with no sound.

I still use Windows 2000 Pro because I have absolutely zero reason to upgrade to XP before Vista, and certainly not for Blazing Angels if I would have purchased it. However, I fear that Ubi might use Xact in all future games including SHIV. I guess it's the eventual path of games but I'd like to prolong updating the OS if I SHIV didn't use that sound engine. I know from reading some interviews it sounds like the graphics got the largest overhaul as did some other aspects of the game but nothing about sound changes.

Any thoughts?

same area different question tho
i hope they use the music engine from SH3 only adapt it to play the sound effects for the sub interior crew speech etc...the music in SH3 would change according to what situation the player was in ..with the music file playing changing as he went from cruising along to a combat situation etc..now not many will have played with the cheesy game music switched on so it was a brilliant concept allmost utterly thrown away ..adapt ti to play different sub interior effects during combat situation than whilst simply cruising along and well lots of atmosphere...

It would be nice if they modelled the speed of sound properly this time. The instant explosion sounds from far of hits is a real immersionkiller.

After some investigation it appears SHIV will continue to use Direct Sound as SHIII did but with probable improvements (similar to the graphical enhancements maybe?). It will not use Xact audio (YAY for W2K users! ). I didn't know this before hand, but Xact is the audio engine for Xbox. The reason it's usable on the PC (or on XP in this case) is because it was ported with Blazing Angels to a PC format. Makes sense I guess.

Good. I can hang on to Windows 2000 Pro for at least one more game. Hehe.

Several, actually. If you go to the audio section at http://u-boot.realsimulation.com/ you will find at least one DB sound pack, as well as my own, which is listed as Sailor Steve.rar

Also, Anzacmick did one based on the English-dubbed version.

Being sound files, none of these take up a lot of extra space or affect frame rates and game play; they just add a whole world of immersion.
