If you use SH3 Gen it can give you hints about where larger ships are stationed or patrolling.

Depend's what mods you got in GW TF's are common in grids AF,AE,BE some convoys have BB's or Bogie class carriers as well in the centre.

Depends on what year as well. With some mods in 1940 Norway is the place to be for Capital ships. With GW the med has plenty of TF's. other than that the grids andy_311 mentioned are good.

There are lots of good spots. I've encountered dozens of TF's in my SH3 careers. I've sunk over 20 battleships, but have lost count. Only twice have I encountered a fleet carrier at sea, sinking none (aside from those found in port). Hunter killer groups are plentiful. I play at 88%, with only MCU enabled in case that matters. I've never opened up the campaign files to see where they are, I'd rather discover them on my own.

Among the best grids I've found for task forces

BE38, AF77, CJ75, CG43, CG95, CN22, AM42, AM33. Of course the TF's are tavelling a route, so any grid along the route is as good as any other, but I've sunk multiple capital ships in each of those listed. CJ75 is my best grid with many BBs and a few cruisers.

For HK groups, BE66/65 is the best spot, with more I've encountered west of Gibraltar, around CG87/88.

Here's a thread that lists many of these contacts (date, grid, result) http://forums.frugalsworld.com/vbb/s...ad.php?t=86892

For the hell of it, I decided some time ago to do a career where I only attacked warships. I did reports for each patrol, which includes all the info on each encounter and the attack (if any) This can be read here http://forums.frugalsworld.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=99279 Beware, many images.

At least 5 BBs were sunk in that career.

All of these contacts were in a stock SH3 campaign, no campaign mods aside from SH3 Commander.

Great reports Threadfin. I do basicly the same in a notebook. Dates, contacts, weather, shipping sunk and in what grid. And also if aircraft attack us and results if they are shot down.

I didn't realise Frugals World had a SHIII section, guess I'll have to stop in more often. Hmmmm, has any one tried using their Cougar in SHIII. LOL Knowing some of the guys over there, they must have at least tried at one time or another to figure a way to do it.

Thanks. Yeah, we've had a SH3 forum since just after release. Stop on by. Not much traffic at the mo, it sort of ebbs and flows

I just sunk a Southampton Light Cruiser (10,000+ tons) travelling in the middle of a convoy outbound from Gibraltar in June '41. Grid CG77 or thereabouts. (I do have to brag a bit about that patrol....that was a 52,000 ton patrol for me. I must have sunk about 8-10 ships, the majority of them being large cargos. I was having a streak of luck hitting them in the fuel bunkers. You can sink a heck of a lot when you're only using 1 torpedo per ship )

I think they become a lot more common in convoys as time goes by. Just my general impression, I could be wrong.
