Default New PC but cannot install SHIII

Just bought a kick-butt Dell XPS laptop and when I try to install SHIII from the original DVD (USA) which is pristine by the way, it stops at a certain point everytime and after a several minutes, (quite a few!) there is no more HDD activity and I'm dead in the water. No error message or anything. Searched the forum for similar and I haven't come up with anything... so far.

Looked into the Star Force thing but as near as I can tell that is not an issue because SF launches only when you actually play the game and not during install. Went to SF's site as well and downloaded the update only to discover that since the game isn't installed, SF is not on this computer and it tells you that. I should add, this PC is virgin-like in that I haven't put a thing on it since it's arrival and other than the software that came loaded it's a clean machine.

Dell XPS 1710
Core 2 Duo 2.16Ghz 4Mg L2 cache
2GB RAM Dual channel DDR2
512MB NVIDIATM GeForceTM Go 7900 GTX Graphics Card
8X DVD+/-RW with Dual-layer DVD+R write capability
100gb 7200rpm SATA HDD
Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy

Anyone had this problem, either laptop or desktop?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dave

P.S. I should also mention that I've had SHIII since it's release and it's worked perfectly fine on my desktop... go figure!

Ooops! Thanks for the reply. Forgot to include my OS! Silly, but I honestly don't know. The PC came loaded with Win XP Pro and as far as I know it is not 64 bit... any one else know?

I believe my question has been answered.... I've been home sick the past two days and after a bit of searching akk over the web, it appears that it's up to Ubisoft to come out with a patch for the 64bit OS's... and I can see that there aren't many people holding their breath in anticapation...

My post on SHIII forum;

"Now that I have upgraded to a great laptop computer with all the bells and whistles, I come to find out that I can no longer play my absolute favorite game, SHIII, because of my 64bit operating system.
Furthermore, there appears to be no other work-around except for Ubisoft to release an update or patch for the StarForce protection software. Additionally, I understand this is an issue between 32 and 64bit software and according to the StarForce website; this is a very simple fix for most game companies.
What I would like to know is IF, or WHEN this update will be made available. Sans that, I can see many people in the buying public getting rightfully miffed at Ubisoft not only because there is no fix for this problem if one has bought a new PC and attemted to install your games, BUT, I also see as newer Ubisoft titles come onto the market there will be a great many people who cannot play them on older computers... many of us are being caught unaware of this situation and this is not good business!
Sincerly, a very watchful user of Ubisoft product."
