It is the story of U-869 that started my obsession with U-boats.

READ SHADOW DIVERS TOO!!! It is the book that the documentary is based on... and it is a page turner. I read it in about 36 hours... just couldn't put it down.

I can't believe it took six years for the U-boat to give up it's Identity and they lost three divers in the process. I was in these forums last night when the wife came scrambling down the hallway shouting theres a u-boat documentry on! well to me that was the same as ALARM!!!!!!. These men in the documentry were outstanding, they weren't taking stuff to sell it,stealing objects off the boat, and trying to make a profit, they just wanted to find out why this u-boat was there and which u-boat it was? then to find and locate the only surviver (still living) wow!

I will locate "SHADOW DIVERS" and buy it ! thanks for your feedback.

Yes. It appears that it was sunk by its own torpedo. Probably a T5 circle-runner. They fired it and it turned back on them. (apparently)

It appears that there was some warning... based on the location of the crew's remains... It would seem they were in the process of a crash dive...

That being said, it was also standard proceedure to order a crashdive after firing an acoustic torpedo... due to the possibility of it turning into a circle-runner.

This also happened late in the war... when crew quality was degraded by attrition... It is possible that the soundman didn't report quickly... or a hundred other things.

Venatore,

I don't want to be a "Abuse Nazi", but what reason does it have that you write in HUGE letters? Does that have any Special benefit? Or do you forgot your Glasses someware and write that huge so you can read your own Text?

Venatore & Noob...

This is an adult forum. We are ALL here to enjoy ourselves, to enjoy talking about SH3 and other submarine simulations, and to enjoy being here with many others with like interests.
When you take potshots at one another, it merely shows less than adult attitude, and usually ends up getting worse rather than better. I'm sure the moderators will be the first to tell you that the best way for them to end these little snowball fights is to remove one or the other...possibly both, if both were guilty of infractions.
Let's let bygones be bygones, and start fresh. Move forward, not into the past.
Thanks, guys.
