See the last entry under CH3 Crashed while loading.
1) Everything I have is on drive C: 2) I want to make Drice C: to drive D: 3) I want to install a new 80 gig HD as drive C: with a fresh install of Windows XP SP2 and everything updated (drivers) 4) I have a lot of mods in my present SH3 game (which will now be on Drive D ![]() 5) I intend to partition the new drive C: with the first partition having only Windows Files and upgrade all drivers, and the second partition will have all my games. 6) I will install SH3 on the new C: drive 7) Can I copy my present SH3 data folder (and it's contents) and the Mod Folder from the now Drive D: to SH3 on the C: drive and then put my career back in My Documents Folder. 8) Will SH3 now work - as if I hadn't changed anything and was still running SH3 as I am now? If there is a question about what I'm trying to do, please ask, but I need an answer about what I propose to do. |

You can do that, and it should work, theoretically. But I'd suggeswt after you've partitioned the drievs and applied a new windows install, to reinstall yur SH3. This way it will be in the registry too. Otherwise it won't, but it should\nt make a difference and you should be able to play on the copy as well. Only thing you probably won't be able to do is launch the game thru a start menu shortcut (I think), because IIRC those use registry values.
Anyway long story short:

I purchased a brand new SH3 DVD which is not even out of the box. I did this, just is case there was a problem with the original SH3 that I bought. The original DVD is scratched a bit and I heard that if the DVD is left in the drive and the computer is turn on and off every day with it in the drive, the DVD itself can be damaged because of it being "jarred" everytime the computer is started. Well, this could also be a reason that the original SH3 DVD could be a problem with the number of fresh install I made with it. So the new install of SH3 will be from a new, unused SH3 DVD.
I sincerely hope that I can use the data and mod folders by pasting it into the new install. |

I haven't checked because I'm at work, but I believe you will have issues with your registry entries. If SH3 is listed in your registry, then you won't be able to run it. I would use Nortons Ghost then uninstall all unwanted programs from your new C drive. Reinstall any you wish to have on your new D drive. Also be careful about the windows/system partition size. Add at least half again as much as the Microsoft recommend size. This will give the system room to grow (which it will do). Hope this helps.

At present, My SH3 is on drive C: There will be a NEW hard drive put in as Drive C: which will be partitioned for the windows XP SP2 with all drivers updated and the other partition for my programs.
My current hard drive which has everything on it will become Drive D: My question was: There will be a new install of SH3 on the NEW hard drive in the programs section. The registry will relate to this new Hard drive and have nothing to do with the OLD hard drive which is now drive D: Once I have the NEW install of SH3 on the NEW hard drive (drive C: ), I want to be able to COPY the data files and the mod folder into the new SH3 (from drive D: ). This will save me having to go through all the work of installing each mod over again. I don't know what Norton's Ghost is and why do I need it as there will be NO programs on the NEW drive C: until I install them. Forget about drive D: because all I will be using from that drive will be DATA, not programs. Have I made my point and question clear enough? Last edited by robj250; 09-07-06 at 08:28 AM. |

Yep your made it clear as. So all you want to do is move the Data from SH3 thats in the D drive to the c where SH3 will be. No problem. Just move or copy it over. I would move it over instead of copy as sometimes copying SH3 to another place can mess things up. The game is so blardy sensitive!. It spits the dummy easy in fact i would go as afar as to say its starforce that causes it.
I mentioned Nortons Ghost because you can make whole images of your drives or parts or your drives throw it on a dvd and then use it later if you need too. |

Right-click on the data folder and drag it to your C drive then let go of the mouse button a menu will come down with Copy here, Move here, options. Then just choose Move here.
Best to have both drives open & displayed on your desktop - Open Sh3 in the c drive and sh3 in the d. then you just do the above - drag over the data folder. |
