Supermod Spam
I'd like to make a request to Neil and get an idea of what the rest of community thinks about making a dedicated supermod forum/thread for both Grey Wolves and NYGM TW supermods.
I have recently come back to forums to get into SH3 again and the forums seem to be flooded with alot of what I call "Supermod Spam" For every single mod release/post/discussion of a mod I read...I have to read 4-5 posts reguarding questions, comments, bug reports, compatiability issues, verbal bashing, propaganda, and flame throwing dealing with either Grey Wolves or NYGM TW. I enjoy the work that both of these mods have produced and the people that have dedicated themselves to their development. However, it is very frustrating to read through all the Supermod noise and chatter to get to posts that I am interested at the individual level (not the supermod). This kind of supermod pollution phenomenon has slowly consumed the original SH3 forum that was originally created for indivdual mod releases and ideas in general. Now its a combination of everything thrown into one big mess of what is like a thick extra chunky supermod/little mod soup. I always enjoyed the SH3 forum to see new releases or developments of individual mods...and now it seems like we have various interest groups all trying to discuss/compete and pitch their releases in one location all at the same time. Its almost like having big government where you have a two party system and all you hear is the disputes and issues related to the major players while the smaller ideas at the individual level get drowned out. In the real world this is very dysfunctional and is a disservice to the public... just turn on the news to any american media outlet to see a perfect example. As a fan of the subsim community....I don't think SH3 forums should lower itself to these standards. I think this community has reached a crossroads (if it hasn't passed it already)...where the discussions need to be reorganized and split into the interest groups for the various major installs as well as those that like the independence to go it alone. I am one of the user types that has been tweaking my own install since sh3 was released. I don't plan on ever installing Grey Wolves or NYGM TW supermods. I use parts of both supermods and continue to add things as they are released. This is what I enjoy doing and will continue to do so. I just wish the forums would cater to my needs more accordingly as well as those users of the supermods. So, based on my arguements above I request that the subsim SH3 section be divided into the following: SH3 General (As Is...SH3 General Chat) Sh3 Mods (No Supermod Discussions), Questions, Single Mod Releases, Individual Mod help) GreyWolves Super Mod User Discussion (Questions, Bug Reports, Cheerleading of users, Latest Release Stickies) NYGM TW Super Mod User Discussion (Questions, Bug Reports, Cheerleading of users, Latest Release Stickies) I would very much appreciate if Neil considers seperating these discussions into the above categories to preserve the way sh3 mods was before the supermod politics started...so that everyone can easily navigate to the topics and discussion related to their particular install/interests. Please post your comments of what you think and take the attached poll. Thanks. Last edited by Tikigod; 10-09-06 at 02:30 AM. |

This is a good idea. It would make the forum better and clear up some of the chatter.
I'd like to see U-Boat War Ace Campaign treated the same and given a section. It is a supermod, and a damn fine one at that. Last edited by SimNut; 10-09-06 at 02:32 AM. |
