Default Best pacific theatre "uboat-movie"!!

Well, the "Das Boot" movie and SHIII goes together like a hand and a glove, and its definitive the best movie when it comes to depict the uboat war in the atlantic theatre. But: What is the best movie when it comes to SHIV and the pacific theatre??
My personal opinion is that "Run silent, run deep" is a good one, and also "operation Petticoat". What is your favourites?

There haven't been any "modern" attempts at providing a good U.S. Navy film depicting fleet subs in WWII. The only ones are the old b&w films of yesteryear.

It would be nice to see something new come out though. As long as it isn't full of stupid politically correct bs. But I doubt Hollywood will let that happen.

So I stick with the old standards, even though I've seen them hundreds of times.

The colourized version of They Were Expendable is really nice though. It would be neat to see the old b&w sub films done the treatment.

Default Movie

@ Hylander_1314: Good point, hollywood is the "hard nut to crack"...

However: Look at all the movies about WWII in Europe. I would guess that there should be enough material about the pacific war aswell. But please: Don't let Steven Seagal or Ben Affleck play in it!!! thats the recepy for disaster!!!

Run silent, run deep....is unfortunately very old, even if it was a remarkable piece of achievement. Hollywood..uhm...let's not talk about it. I'm sure that a Hollywood movie about Pacific submarine war..would be something like...an american sub gets crippled while charging 20 japanese destroyers on the surface,,,,it manages to sink half of them with the deck gun and AA's....half of it's crew dies heroically...then it dives to the bottom...DC's....more crew dies....only one man survives (Steven Seagal maybe)....and he manages to surface the boat all by himself....he mans all the stations in turns.....aims and launches the last working torpedo...which hits the biig tanker in the convoy...the whole sea explodes, destroying the remaining ten destroyers and half of japanese merchants navy....and he returns home....entering the harbour saluting, and with the cigar in his mouth.

A whole lot better than the movie. The movie is nothing like the book.

What about "Torpedo Run" starring Glenn Ford. Not in Das Boot's class by any means, but not a bad film and it's in colour.

"Run Silent Run Deep" never saw that, but my choise is "Torpedo Run". Also saw one made in 1943 or 44, with Cary Grant, but can't remember the title.

It's a rare thing that a Movie matches the Book that its based upon!

But i agree! We sooo need a good modern movie about US Sub in WWII.
But thats so not in Vouge these days!!
