Default I'm back from Kyrgyzstan!

Hello

I'm back from the mountains of Kyrgyzstan, safe and sound. 5kg lighter and with a nice farmers tan . Fantastic place Kyrgyzstan, especially if you like mountains. This is me on a former unclimbed peak, couldn't bring a flag, but it seems like SUBSIM still is represented at ca 4900m . This was part of acclimatization for Khan Tengri, but weather spoiled any summit attempts for 4 days, so soryy guys, no subsim sticker att 7000m+. Will have to wait for my next trip. More pics and stories to follow when I have cleared up all the travelleing gear.

On the summit on "peak Porphyr"

Summit from the last glacier approach

Cheers Porphy

Wow. Now that does look fantastic. At least someone is not sitting in front of their computer 24/7. Please tell us more about your trip.

Love the...eh...representation.

Great view, nice middle-of-nowhere spot.

Did you get to fly in any, "exotic", aircraft?

Welcome back! Hope you post more pictures. Those mountains make the Alps and the BC coast mountains look like hills.

Exotic enough for me hehe. We came in this one. Going home in it was a nervous affair, completley overloded with 19 persons and tons of gear. Jelly legs for me before it seemed stabelize and be in good flight after some dodgy take of. Landing was full power, high speed approach. :hmm:

Hi
Here comes some more from Kyrgyzstan. I won't bore you with to much, just a few select pics that catches some of the feelings. This trip had both ups and downs, no pun, hehe. Happy, tired and a sad moments (one german climber died from hypothermia close to our camp), but most happy ones, and great climbing mates.

1 Kahn Tengri with sun, and Chapeyev to the right. We climbed Chapeyev and went down to the col between. Waited for 3 stormy days, but no go at the summit.

2 Mates going up to camp two. Starts to get steepish. Damn backpack feels heavy with gravity in work.

3 Spot the two climbers....

4 View from tent in camp three. Before bad weather swept in. Peak Pobeda ca 7500m in evening light. Not bad at all.

5 People suffering heavy loads and high altitude in combination. Still one hour to camp...

6 Happy camper back in BC. That melon was a pure delight for a dehydrated guy like me.

Cheers Porphy

Thanks Joea!

Sounds as the music I listned to on the teli last day in the hotel room in Bishkek. Sorry I can't understand the language yet, not even with my phrase book... . Memories (although not very long ago) comes back. I do miss the water melons.
Do you know many people from Kyrgyzstan? Seems like you have a few connections. :hmm:

Cool, actually one of my closest friends is from there (came to Geneva to do her studies and work here too) and I met others from her republic as well as a lot of people from the ex-Soviet bloc. Still have to go there sometime, one of my dreams is to take the trans-Siberian and make a few detours.

One more song: http://www.tamga.info/mediafiles/fun...tamga.info.mp3

Very traditional.
