Hi all,
I just wanted to tell you about what happened to me in my last mission. I had been patrolling in my IX-C over in map grid CA, I arrived there with more than 75% of my fuel left, then I zoomed about a bit at flank speed chasing tankers, then chased a task force at full ahead up to BC where I gave it a good spanking, sinking four T3 Tankers, four or so C3 cargos four C2's and a V&W Destroyer that was steaming directly at me! After all that hi-speed fuel guzzling I end up only with just a little more than 25% of my fuel left, and still had to get back to Lorient!!! I plottd my course home in a straight line and set speed for 9 knots. My fuel ran out the western side of BF. I ran on batteries until the air almost ran out and then surfaced, I got my men back to healthy pink color and dived again. I repeated this two or three times. With my fingers crossed I anxiously proceeded on my way...The last time I came up for air I got attacked by a hurricane. I was dead in the water and only ably to sink slowly away to saftey. Luckily he was rubbish and missed me he only damaged my guns a little. I managed to sink down to e-motor depth and motored off on my way to Lorient. I was down to less than 25% battery and still had many kilometers to kilometers to run until I could get into port. I diverted to Brest. With my battery gague on the low side of red I entered the estuary that would take me to saftey. Amazingly I managed to crawl up to the dock with my speed dropping to 1 knot as the port came into sight.... When the batteries finally ran out and the screws stopped I was about 25 meters from the harbour wall!!! PHEW!!!! Just out of interest, what can you do if the power runs out and you can't end the mission?? Can you edit a config file or something to give you more fuel again so that you get home? What do you do when you can't get home?? Two-Six Last edited by Two-Six; 09-14-06 at 12:11 PM. |

Just hit the esc key and choose end mission. It doesnst matter if you are dead in the water and 1000s of Ks back to base. You will be magically teleported back home. We in SH3 world like to think of it as gettting a tow home. But the reallity is, the game doesnt take into consideration whether or not you can actually make it back when you end the mission. It just take you there ready for the next one. In fact, the only thing you get for steaming all the way home is a small renown bonus.

Deimos is correct, but some mods like NYGM disable that feature sometimes.

I think there is a bug as well that recharges your battery even though your engines are stopped on the surface.

Actually, you have to be within 30km, NOT 50km of the port...
Kind regards, Eichenlaub

I was in a caribbean patrol with my IX-B and i can´t return to my home base, Lorient, y was low on fuel to do this so I dived during the day until espend about 75% of power in the batteries and surface to recharge. i change my course to the canaries islands.
Fortunately i arrive to the supply ship in the canaries islands with 30 km of fuel remaining in the tanks. i like the realism, so i recharge fuel and torpedoes, but i don´t go to a new war patrol, i sailed to lorient and finish the long journey, my crew was just too tired to start a new patrol with one diay of rest and the boat needs some repairs in port. ![]()
