Default Late-war tactics

In 1943 and later, what do you guys do to survive? I am using U-1149 in February 1944, it's a VIIC/42. I have come under attack several times. I usually just get to my patrol grid and stay there for 24 hours then return to Bergen. The problem is, I always stay submerged with the snorkel up and I'm thinking I would not know if there was a plane attacking me until I got hit. Does the radar warning emitter work at snorkel depth? Or, should I stay on the surface instead?

I don't think the radar warning works at snorkle depth.Never tried though...
What tactic I use late-war ...well preform frequent checks...stay low and away from usual warship routes...try to stay away from aircraft hot-spots...

So when, generally, should I surface, and when should I snorkel? Also, what are some of the aircraft hotspots? I ask this because I've only encountered one plane in all my careers.

Going at >256TC will mean you will probably meet no to very little aircarft. If you're \using a major-mod,in the upper left corner of the screen in the nav-map screen ,you will have some more maps. One of them hasa green-yelowish kind of edge.Pull it down, and you will se convoy routes, single merchant routes and aircarft coverage zones.Generally ,all the "hot-spots" are situated within those circles, near ports. So be carefull in that area .

An good tactic is too stay Submerged deep like 50 meters or something like that
and go Slow. and at night use the snorkel to recharge less chance to meet airplanes.

The Azores is one of the Hotspots for Aircraft especiall in 44 there's a big massive british airbase in the DH grid they bay of biscay and anywhere near land you will attract planes, and the BE grid is another place you will encounter aircraft.

Well, if I have the scope up, would my crew let me know if there was something on the surface? I didn't know that my crew could operate my periscope... Or should I spin the periscope around for as long as it takes to recharge and get air? Thanks, I must seem like an idiot. I've never played the game before in 1944...

It was SUPPOSED to bloody work on the XXI, but due to a coding error, the antenna destroys the snorkel.

It was one of the things on the "For the Sake of God, and All Else that You May or May Not Consider Holy, Please Correct This" list for patch 1.2. However, due to budgetary constraints, it was never implemented.

I blame God.

>256 means OVER 256 -don't worry aircarft preform normally at 256 .
And about the XXI -there was a thread about that a while ago -damn good waste of anti-radar
