SH3 doesn't load after changing the resolution to 1280 x 1024 with the appropriate files aviable (d3d9.dll, d3d9.cfg, ... , MS-Toolkit). The exact point when the game crashes to desktop is after playing both intro movies (stock SH3-installation with 1.4b patch). Everything different to 1024 x 768 will causes the game to crash... Any advise?

I've read through everything related to this, manual setup with d3d9.dll and d3d9.cfg and/or changing both main.cfg before going on with anything else; in some threads it is recommended to use the "sp2 res fix bla bla".bat - even saving the manually created sh3.sdb to the "My Documents"-folder. XP's Event Log doesn't tell anything extraordinary (I've been thinking of DCOM-issues, because someone said something about .Net-Framework v1/v2 has to be installed in order to use the d3d9.dll file).
Video device (nVidia 9600M GT) drivers are up to date; I tried older versions, too, and DX9 has recently been updated. No hardware-tweaks. XP SP2 with all security and stability related patches, weekly maintenance... I'm out of Ideas... |

1.
With XP SP2 you must exactly follow the toolkit guidelines to create the SH3 program database as described in this thread http://174.133.66.250/radioroom//sho...d.php?t=100806 otherwise the d3d9.dll in the Sh3 folder will not be loaded after a delay and the DirectX9c original one in /Windows/System32 is used. (users with Vista or Win7 does not have this problem, there dll's in a program folder are loaded in higher priority and they don't need the MS Toolkit ![]() 2. The SH3 program database (sh3.sdb) must be in the same folder as the faked d3d9.dll/cfg and the SH3.exe 3. Net-Framework v2 must be installed to get a Tookit program database work For a test you can rename the d3d9.dll in windows/system32 (only rename, don't delete it ![]()

Aditionally your game resolution must match your desktop resolution when using the fix otherwise it will not load.

I don't want to install the 3rd Service Pack. I rather prefer a stable system with great endurance than the most current version of software available
![]() Well, back to topic: I finally got it working - cheers to all... I don't know why this fix doesn't want to run with my laptop-screen (1440x900), so I plugged in my old 17" CRT, set the resolution to 1280x1024@85Hz, and it runs quite well (I tried 1440x900 on my notebook-screen, too, which ended up in merely bad results - ctd!). Finally, I decided to install a few Mods (GWX3 (incl. St.Naz&SchleuseV4), Foam, SH4 effects for SH3 v7.1, and a few more modifications, especially for ambience - and my own recorded voice for my sonar officer as well ![]() And because the game looks that much more stunning and amazing, I completed five Feindfahrten with U-2 (IIa ^^), starting in '39. 100% Realism, and 35.401 tons sunk in the rough North Sea battlefield ![]() ![]() |

Ok, there is a version of the Res fix in the Subsim downloads that already contains the *.sdb file from the Compatibility Toolkit. So you don't need to mess around with that pos.
That version of the res fix works with SP2, SP3 and Vista (tested). Desktop resolution has nothing to do with the res fix. I have already demonstrated SH3 running at multiple full screen ratios using the same PC. These were 1920 x 1080, 1440 x 900 and 1280 x 1024. If the fix is not working for you then something else, probably your graphics card control panel, is interfering or overriding the mod. Play around with some settings but assume the mod is good and look elsewhere.
