Default Engaging mavericks with drop down menu

Heya

Short summery of what happened:

I was playing MP, facing a p3, while ownship was a OHP (there were 2 subs also).

P3 is shooting several mavericks at me.

I see the missiles on the nav map as unknown airborne targets.
I right click one of the missiles that is further behind (I trust my CIWS ) and select engage->Sm2.

Now the SM2 is being loaded but never fired. The missiles were within range (40nm). A little bit confused I tried to attack another vampire with the drop down menu, but the SM2 was greyed out and read "SM2(unavailable)".
Being in a little bit of a panic, I set the CIWS to full auto and launched all my flares.... no success.

The P3 player told me, I had to unassign the SM2 first, but I never had assigned anyhting to it in the first place.

So I fired up the mission editor, placed a p3 and ffg and told the p3 to attack me.
First of all, the missiles were warping alot, jumping from spot to another.
Well I got used to those "anomalies" in DW so I didnt care.
Then I tried to intercept the mavericks in the same way I did in the MP sessions, via drop down menu in nav map. Same result. SM2 loaded but not fired. Another try via drop down menu resulted in greyed text (unavailable) again.

Even if the automated launch procedure via drop down menu was doing the target assignment wrong, I still had the 2nd "CAS" radar available at that short range.

Is there something I am terribly doing wrong or is it just a bit buggy here?

Thanx & cheers
