Default Night time ship recognition.

Okay so I've pretty much got my mods figured out. GW and SH3 Cmdr. I also have all that manual TDC stuff down. Now I have a problem. How am I supposed to ID a ship at night? In my latest GW (also my first) campaign I encountered a lone merchant at night and while with the 16 km mod my watch crew can see it I can't even see it's wake until about 2000 metres. Is this how it's supposed to be? Is the blackness of the night as seen in GW consistent with the way it really is or is it supposed to be a bit lighter?

BTW it was a moonless night.

well, if its late in the war, it should be an enemy vessel, and you can just blow it away. however if its early, you might want to run up close to it so you can identify the flag

I read about this in an older post, and the answer is: No, that's not the way it's supposed to be, but thats the only way you're going to get it... the computer controled sailors should be as blind as you at night, but no mod can alter this without affecting their daytime vision... In other words, you can only get "always useless and blind (even at day)" or "always eagle x-ray vision (even at night)"... this behaviour is hard coded and not modable.

I still don't understand why I'm the only one with the opposite problem; I use the 16km Dark mod and my night sky still looks like the full moon is out-even in a storm.

I want it darker.

Ya night time ship recognition is always fun, about the only way to do it is get realy close (like 500m or closer). I often park myself ahead of the ship and wait submerged for it to get close while setting up a fire solution on it, then when its close enough to identify i either attack, or surface in irritation. Later in the war its not much of an issue as pretty much everyone other then uboats in the atlantic is your enemy. Also GW has a handy pull down at the periscope station that gives you the flags of all the countries, and when they entered the war.

Well, there's always the manual solution: you know, "brightness" and "contrast"....

Yeah, but it looks funny, and it makes everything else on the computer look...off.

I haven't encountered moonlight on GW yet. Does it enhance the ability to see at night?

This Mod does not add any light in game.
It is your imagination.
