SH3 PATCH 1.4b???

ok... after endless searching of the subsim site... sigh...
I cannot find the patch 1.4b

I wish to mod to TGW (the grey wolves), I have it downloaded.
TGW's installation says i need SH3 clean install and patch to 1.4b in order to mod.
I re-installed my american version DVD of silent hunter 3

I open the C , Program files , ubisoft , I click on the exc file sh3...
I click properties, i click version tab...
It says i have SH3 version 1.0.0.1

WHERE IS PATCH 1.4b ???
I've chosen TGW's mod after much reading, but dammit they dropped the ball when they say 'need 1.4b' and don't list a link or anything to 1.4b.
Shame on me for even trying to click the auto install button without reading the readme which didn't even have the patch!!!
Whats worse is the UBISOFT .com website doesn't seem to even list SH3 at all?

And subsim... all this sticky JUNK but no '1.4b' latest patch version of SH3???
YOU CALL YOURSELVES SUBSIM? I don't want to read every dam thread that shows up when i do a search for '1.4b'... You can't separate that?

NEVER MIND... I DID A SEARCH AT YAHOO...
'Silent Hunter 1.4b' will find the patch...
I bet if i put 'silent hunter mod' in yahoo and i might not even need SUBSIM at all.
thanks for nuthing Subsim (besides hosting the mod) YA'LL need to 'get back on course'
and TGW... sigh... on a more calm note, I think I'm really going to like the mod.

The 1.4b patch won't install.

Whats wrong with the whole picture?
I for one am VERY glad that ubisoft and subsim had NUTHING to do with the REAL Uboats! Ya, yawoll!

Make sure you´ve download the correct patch, there are four different 1.4b versions (US Download, US DVD, EMEA Download, EMEA DVD).

When you install 1.4b it says it´s version 1.3, that´s a known bug you can ignore.

Really strange. I only downloaded SH3 in the first place "for something to do", as I am really a flight-simmer (MSFS9) but had played Silent Service II ages ago on an Amiga and was in the mood for a little "boom-bang". After serious problems with the installation/re-installation of the D2D version I went out and bought the SH3 DVD in frustration and it took me possibly 15 mins to find and install the patch download - I just wish I could remember where I found it - hmm, one sec, let me do a search now, quickly...

Just by-the-by. Love SH3 for the following reasons:
Excellent graphical detail. Good sound effects. Game requires thought, planning and strategy. Modding capability - not that I am capable of much more than minor sound/tga enhancements (lol). Nice touch of tension - the feeling of "being there". The existance of forums such as this one! (sycophantic, or what? - lol)

ok... hours later...

First off... i have no fugging idea which version i have.
I think i have 1.5
(why do i need patct us dvd version 1.4b?)
I did dl and try to install us dvd version 1.4b patch...
it errors on a brand new fresh install of the us dvd install.
but it did finish.
???

Next i install 'the grey wolves' and besides 'main files'... i only clicked a single option 'das boat songs' 2nd on the list from the top, 1st being 'main files'.
(btw I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT 'something 8km or 16km OR WTF)
(and what the hell is a 'generic ship' ???)
but it too did finish
???

I double click the sh3 desktop icon...
The original movie plays of the uboat crew sims doing an attack on convoy.
Then i get 'the grey wolves' screen and the red loading bar goes all the way across...
Then i hear a windows 'ding' and... i get a warning... this is exactly what it says...
There is a new (not implemented) page: <Page Ingame Options>
i click 'ok'
I've already done this, this is when i lock up so i submit this...

MenuID not found: 0x1a000008!

then i'm locked up... control alt delete and end process sh3

I too chose 'the grey wolves' mod but i'm beginning to give up... war over?

it sounds like you installed grey wolves before patching to 1.4b.

you could try to reinstall the game
patch to 1.4b
then install grey wolves mod.

if you had an error during the patch, there is a good chance you will have problems. i'd try to reinstall.

you need to select only one of the distance choices.
i used 16km dark = 16km distance with darker night sky.
16 km light = 16km distance with lighter night sky...

generic ship means you will see "contact" instead of the actual ship when looking through the periscope.

Ok. I hope I'm not overstepping the mark here, but I know how frustrating it can be to install SH3 sometimes (been there, done that, got the t-shirt), so here's how I re-installed a couple of days back (which makes the sixth time I've re-installed, lol). First make sure you completely uninstall the existing SH3, including the SH3 folder the game creates in your Documents & Settings folder ( C:\Documents & Settings\<user name>\My Documents); then reinstall from the DVD. I cancelled out from the Game Shadow "offer", but that's up to you. Install the 1.4 patch - which politely informs you that it will upgrade you to 1.3, but actually does install 1.4. Then apply the Grey Wolves mod (I'm assuming you want to do that as you mentioned it in your posting). Any other mods you want to apply are best added after Grey Wolves as some of them conflict with GW, overwriting some files that GW amends. The only mods I've added are things like the occasional sound enhancement and some extra ship types + skins. SH3 Commander can be installed seperately (I wouldn't be without it) and doesn't affect any of the mods I'm using even when you add its own "addon" (SH3CmdrCSP). The error message regarding menuID would seem to show that a mod has not been fully implemented and SH3 has found a menu entry it cannot recognise. I've had that message on a couple of occasions and have had to disable the offending mod (I use JSGME - really useful). Please keep trying Schpeedy - the game is worth it. I say that right after having been disabled at the north-eastern corner of grid AN73 in my Type IID (restarted career) for a reason I have yet to discover. Hull is down to 60%, 1 crew dead, 1 severely injured, flooding all over the place and not much hope of a recovery. Ahh well.
