Default SeaWolves or Battle in the Med?

Hi guys - I've looked at a mod before and had a problem with it in that when I saved a game I couldn't reload it. So I've reinstalled and applied the latest patch on a clean game.

What's the general concensus about Seawolves vs Battle in the med? I'd guess you can't use both at the same time - so which would you plumb for?

Oh while I remember, whats the difference between GREY wolves and SEA wolves?

Dave

Just as one seawolves thread is locked, up pops another. Look here for last thread on seawolves (has it just been released in another country?).

Battle of the Med looks promising though, and to be totally honest with you I was thinking of buying it until I got wind of what's scheduled in the Grey Wolves Expansion Pack, so I'll be waiting for the *free* mod.

Others will comment on Seawolves, I just don't want to go there (again), so here's the link to both homepages:

Seawolves (which is NOT free): http://www.combatplanes.ca/seawolves.htm
Grey Wolves (which is free): http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/TGW/

Not ANOTHER SeaWolves thread!

So, to clarify.

SEAWolves is a collection of STOLEN COMMUNITY-MADE freely available mods which they sell and say that it is "their" addon.

GREYWolves is a free mega-super addon for SHIII version 1.4. It is not compabtible with other mods. Ten times better than SeaWolves. Created by some of the best modders available for SH3, completely legal and free.

GreyWolves website:
http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/TGW/#dl

Battle in the med; I've got no idea of it so far as I saw it just today, but it looks a bit more OK than SeaWolves. Of course, you'll have to pay, but if you enjoy the med I'd say it's worth it. I don't think that it has stolen any community-made free mods.

BUT

If you enjoy other places than the med I would absolutely recommend GreyWolves.

It is the best thing that ever happened this community!

My favorite in GreyWolves is the sunken ships realistically placed in Scapa Flow to make it harder and more realistic to enter, just as it was in real life.

This is most likely done by X1-software people on purpose once in a while. I've seen them coming here every time with new nicks, which have no info in the profile and very few posts, and start the thread like this (kind of advertisement) or ask very specific technical questions and pick up the knowledge/mods to be sold later. That was especially common before the first Seawolves release.

Thanks for the heads up Sergbuto. I never noticed, but I don't doubt it for a second.

EDIT: LOL! I just noticed Drebbel's Med thread. So he's been X-1 all along! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Actually, Drebbel is asking for info which was already presented and discussed in a number of threads. Asking to repeat that is indeed a good advertisement case, especially when it is coupled with the moderator hat.

Looks like I've stirred it up, sorry guys, I did have a look through the board first.

It seems that downloading Grey Wolves is a task that is difficult in itself... Bandwidth problems...

Yes. With the mirror site I've found that it's best to try whilst the bulk of the USA is sleeping. I usually get max speeds at that time.

Have you checked the Grey Wolves FAQ page, available via the Grey Wolves homepage.

If so, and it hasn't helped, you'll need to post a bit more info, like exactly what the problem is and what errors you are getting.

Yes, X1 is paying my trip to the German Games Convention. And I think it is normal you do something in return.

So please stop bashing me and sending PMs about me posting the thread about the Med mod from combatplanes ! I post all stuff that seems new to me, if there is something wrong with the news I know you all will not hesitate and let the community know your thoughts in no time

We all know the Seawolves story, but atleast have an open mind towards the new Med mod. It might be an honest mod, it might be great fun, and of course it might not be.

As for the first Seawolves it is way past its day and Greywolves and NYGM are much better and free, IMO.
As for the new Med Seawolves (U-Boat: Battle in the Mediterranean)that has not been released except in France.
I advised them historically and beta tested it.
It is very much fun in the Med, has over 40 new ships and I questioned anything I thought might be another mod. They were very straight forward with me and I didn't hold back on questions.
I must add I did not play the NA in the add on only the Salamis and Black Sea campaigns but I am delighted to have the many new ships which I put in my Grey Wolves.
While I beleive it is worth it for the ships alone I can also say the hyper historic activity in the Med is none stop action. No long boring lonely patrols, its battle stations from the get go.
So, I found a way to have both SW-Med and GW on the same PC in separate installs.
It does not have to be an either or nor should we look to trash payware as anything that adds people to our small community helps keep the SH series alive. And we are borderline so seeing how much we can piss off UBI might not be the result most of us would prefer.
