Default A question from a possible newbie

Hi,
I have kept an eye now and then on the SH game but never tried it. I am currently playing WW2Online and IL2, like MM flight simulators.

Now i am seriously thinking of taking the step into SHIII.

I would like to ask about the multi player mode, number of players, how the game is in this mode, what type of missions etc. general stuff about that.

What do people mostly play, single or multi player?

Is there any additional mods, verisons etc. that i shluld buy?

What is GW?

Cheers

Peter

People play mostly single player.

Single player, theres two modes of play, Single mission and campaign. Campaign, its like a career. You build up renown, earn awards, decorations, and the "influence" to upgrade your boat, or get a new boat entirely.

Multiplayer, for the most part, is a single mission scenario, cooperative play as a wolfpack. There is no PvP or sub vs sub action.

As for mods, theres tons of them. The two leading mod compliations or "super mods" are, in alphabetical order:
- Not Your GrandMothers Tonnage war (aka NGYM or TW for short)
- The Grey Wolves (aka GW, or TGW)

Both drastically alter the game from its stock condition, ehancing, tweaking, and changing to make SH3 a better game to play. The difference between the two, is NYGM focuses on Sh3 as a Simulation. GW's on the other hand focusses on SH3 as a total Uboat Experience. Simulation vs total experience, not much of a difference on paper really. Both aim for the same goals, they just go about it differently.
