Default Do you play "Dead is Dead"

I always go by the rule that Dead is Dead and if I get pounded then that's my career over and it is time to start again.

It is a bummer cause I like to build my crew up and promote them and watch their experiance build and when I got to start over with a buch that I don't know it takes a bit to get used to, I use SH3cmdr 2.6 and the random crew function which gives you a nice sprinkling of experianced crew with the nubs.

How many of you guys/girls do the same..

Depends on what mood i'm in..before i downloaded GW i used to roll back and load up a saved file..but now i do go by the unwritten rule of dead is dead...i enjoy it more, no more fool hardy tactics.

Yep. For me, DiD. I then start a new career from the beginning of the following month with a new Kaleun (who always happens to be one of the dead Kaleun's many younger brothers) and continue on through the war. I'm up to Brother #3, Feb '43.

Just tempers any renegade tendencies I might have.

Heh, i used to name, every uboat i ever lost playing DiD in my sig until i ran into a problem of having too many boats to list, and too little of space to list them in.

I usually play IX boats and start in 42. Ive only survived the war, once. I almost surived another time, but lost the boat late 1944. Most of the time, if im going to lose a boat, it ill happen late 43, early 44. Although i think the earliest ive lost a boat is in 42. Most of my losses are to aircraft. I think ive lost a boat to depthcharging, only once that i can remember, maybe twice.

Yes, air craft are lethal arn't they, I usualy can move out of the way of depth charges but I still have a tendancy to stay on the surface and try and knock down aircraft instead of a quick evasive manouvre and the crash dive.

I play dead is dead as well for pretty much the same reasons given already.Keeps you from using foolish tactics and doing things no real sub driver would do,like taking on destroyers with the deck gun.As well as it keeps me playing alot more cautiously and more like a true hunter instead of charging headlong into a fight.

Dead is Dead, because when you get pounded by DC's you will try to stay alive! and ofcourse its an relief when you lost the Destroyers and survived.

and your'e like OW BLOODY HELL!!!! HOW COULD I BE SO STUPID ....arrrrr....Well...New Career!

What I might do is take the Month and Year and start an new career in the same year when I died last time. and I pick the same boat I used..

I load savegames if I die, but that doesn`t mean that I am going after destroyers with the deck gun.

Yes.

Unless the game cheats and kills me for reasons of it's own.

Then I cheat right back.

Yep, this is my philosophy also. I play D.I.D. but in one instance I had a very nice patrol and was going home to St. Nav. all torpedos spent, I plotted a safe path (early '42) out of the reach of air cover and upped the time compression, surfaced, set to standard speed and stopped paying attention....next thing I know my forward compartments are red....I am taking damage, I pause the game and try to figure out what is going on....see no other boats, no airplanes...set the TC to 1 again and get the repair crews working...take more damage and sink...WTF! I was south of Ireland at the time (well south...out in the deeps) In this case I did go back to an earlier save and continue...unfortunantly I my most recent save was at the beginning of the patrol and I lost ~ 25K in tons sunk (would have been a total of ~30K). I think that was the most irritated I have ever been with SHIII! Not sure if I was just unlucky and with lottery like chances rammed something or if SHIII just decided it had enough of me.
