just browsing the internet today, and i came across this site.
awhile back there was a thread about "hovering". this little sim demonstrates the trim and drain systems of a submarine, and was made by a subsim member, or wpl member, XabbaRus. test your hovering abilities by draining and triming the ballast and trim tanks . i got the sub straight and level at 90 feet. it would have stayed there forever once it was trimmed. http://sub-log.com/buoyancy

I found the instructions sorely lacking. But yes, nice little game.

There is something wrong...
in this little sim. Just try and in the beginning, before taking any water in, just pump both bow and stern trim tanks to the main ballast tank and take a look what gonna happen... At least not what you would think... :rotfl:

xabbusrus did do something with it , i read that at the bottom of the page,
but i think the authors of this little game just wanted to demonstrate the similarities of a submarine and a lever, without being to ellaborate, the three states a submarine could have in water. positive buoyancy, negative buoyancy, and neutral buoyancy. this could be cool in a new version of silent hunter, but i wonder when doing a lot of things manually would begin to overload and overwhelm the players. so far tho, my feeling is the more the better! ![]()

In SH3 we rarelly use the Blow Ballast command because the Uboat damage and repairs times are very bad implemented (remember that instant depth screen after some depth charges, ****...this really kill the game..).
But now we have the Longer Repair Time mod which bring a new life for SH3. I never was used the Blow Ballast command so frequently as now! And using the Bballast command is now necessary to trim and control the Uboat buoyancy, because you now frequently have heavy flooding and also the time to recovery. It's really a new game now, starting where the stock ones ends shamefully! Cheers, Rubini. |

Hello all!
My intention is not going OT, but: First time ever I hit to the "interrupted crash dive problem" and actually I found it very enjoyable. To make long story short: My boat was in the Baltic, autumn '39. I ordered CD after the watch spotted the unkown ship. And then it started. I was unable to carry on approach or anything. After the ship passed and dissapeared, we surfaced and run with diesels just enough to charge the batteries. Then I dived again to check "what is the matter". Finally I allowed the boat to go down to bottom, 137 meters. Got some minor damage but managed to surface again after repairs (NYGM 2.0). Finally I informed BdU "we were coming back, becaus the boat was unable to keep its balance, reason unknown..." :rotfl: OK. This made me wonder: I found this problem, as I said, to be OK. Very interesting actually. Some real problems with the boat, suddenly. Then... There is this mini game (USS Holland)... Up to this moment I have allways feeled negative towards frequently asked possibility to really trim your boat in the sim. But now I'm thinking that might be both interesting and not that hard to build in. You know... Maybe changes in water salinity and temperature could be modelled also, like the weather is, so your trim could be different today than it was yesterday. Dunno if this a good idea, and I'm not maybe thinking somekind of mod for the SHIII but maybe Devs work with IV. And have to say, I like this humming bird - mod. Very much. Thank you modders! Sorry the long post. -RC- |
