I was wondering if you use the 3D viewing window to view things like your sub and other ships. I have started playing with it disabled and am starting to enjoy the game better without it. I never thought I would, but it adds to the "where is he at?" feeling of the game.

To be honest playing with 3d enabled is not like cheating since you only see what you think is out there according to the various sensor readings.
So it has absolutely no impact whatsover on tactics, gameplay etc... As to wether i use it or not, yes i have it enabled mostly because i like the 3d models, and because otherwise staring at the 2d navmap for sevral hours would be just boring.:p |

I used to back in the day but now I find it a distraction. Plus I like the feeling of being trapped in my sub/ship/aircraft. Also makes going for a walk (Bridge wings/50 cal.) on the ffg more interesting.

There are a very few cases of the 3d view "telling too much". First of all, when a platform is killed, the wake of the "true" platform gets shown, regardless of view settings. Then again, see demon and mission status to see the same things.
And there are times when there are sounds of platforms in the area, while the platforms themselves aren't detected in the first place; I've detected helos in proximity that way. However, it's also useful for things like knowing how far your sail is from breaching, if the floating wire is touching the surface (and as such, receiving), etc.
