Default boy - transports frail in NYGM 2

I just sunk my first neutral Panamanian transport. She was in a convoy with a bunch of brits and a whack of escorts. I got into the lanes and fired a long range shot (~2km) at a transport, with one T2 for bow keel, and a follow up T1 fast for the engine room. Only the engine room shot hit. I savaged two other ships and bailed. On my egress, I hear 'She's goin down!'. A single hit, amidships (6m depth), sunk that brute. That never happens with a C3 unless it's a crit. Nor a C2. Nor any other ship in NYGM 2.0 that I can think of. But worse, she's from Panama, who's allied with the yanks, and I don't think she's in the fight yet (Nov 6 41). Oh well. The way I see it: If yer in a heavily defended convoy with a pack of brits then you better expect to get keelbusted. I'll explain this to BdU when, and if I, return to Lorient.

3rd patrol. U125 - IXC (I know).

Panama was (and is) a flag of convenience for many major merchant ship companies, including those of Britain and the USA. Other ships were chartered by the Allies from Panama-flagged neutral countries.

You will find Panama-flagged ships randomly scattered through convoys in NYGM TW 2.0, and all may be safely sunk for tonnage without penalty. I don't know whether this rule applies to other mods.

Woah. Cool. I've seen quite a few and wasn't sure how to treat em. I'm still not sure if that makes them technically neutral (as the US is neutral for another month), and if I should be penalized, technically, or if it is to be assumed that any ship in convoy flying panamanian flags is a bald-faced pirate liar. Do these ships ever sail as single merchants in TW 2?

Well, I have to say I'm quite happy with this old gal. Fat-bottom girls do seem to make the rocking world go 'round - so far. It's '41 so the action isn't too sticky, and I'm enjoying the extra torps. And, since I discovered that you can sinkn a C2 with 10 10.5cm shells, and that transports usually go down with a single torp, I'm quite pleased with my tonnage. Also, I was very pleased to discover that my IXC pulls 22KTS in perfectly still sea! That's faster than my VIIB, and with the extra fuel, I can do it harder, longer. So, all in all, she's great. I am a bit curious how my first detection will go; I've not been depth charged yet. I'm hoping that this hulls a bit stronger than my VIIB. If I get an insta-crunch with this boat it will be my last for quite some time.

Are you still alfoat? What are you sailing now?

P.S. Great pic.

IXC does have a bit more hitpoints then an VIIB, but if you look at all the boats hitpionts against each other, it really isnt that much more. Detectionwise, im not sure how its going to go for you with NYGM 2.0. Single escorts wont be a problem, but if you get yourself into the midst of an HK group, your in for a world of hurt. Because the boat doesnt manuever as fast as an VII, i tend to rely on depth... ALOT. Thats not to say i wont pull a quick flank and hard rudder. Overall i think you'll be fine. I get sunk more to planes then depth charges, and i go out of my way to get depth charged sometimes.

What the real perk is, all BS aside, is the extra fuel, extra torpedo's and that 6th tube makes your ass end worth pulling to bear against a target, where as a single torpedo more ofthen then not won't do much. and yeah, IX boats have alot better surface performance. Just be prepaired to pull the plug and go deep. Size wise, id say that the iXB or C isnt too bad, the IXD2 however, is. That bugger is just long.

( IXD2 forced to surface after getting depth charged, note length compared to ramming escort)

These days im not sailing as much, but i think i am going to start a new career soon. To be honest im working with the GW's team on the next GW release, so its taken up a bit of my freetime.

OK - now I know what I want to see most in the next mod - some new tropical clothes for my bridge crew like the ones shown above

I've been on a Drumbeat patrol in the Gulf of Mexico and would love to see my guys enjoying the sunshine topside
