Default Any new playables

Hello. I'm thinking about buying SHIII, but I'ld like to know how much modding freedom that UbiSoft has granted. Are their any new playables created by the mod community out there to download?

The reason that I ask is that I'm currently a DW player, but since SCS (DW developers) has forbidden any created of new players are modification of core game files (only the most superficial stats and AI logic are available to mod with most of the guts of the game out of reach).

Does UbiSoft have a similar policy or are they more free with allowing modding projects? If so has anyone made any new subs to play?

thanks in advance
lb

Sweet! thanks for answering.

I just love a game with open-ended modding. In fact I won't buy a game unless its open to modding and its mod community active. (my favorite game of all time so far is HomeWorld 2 just for that reason, it has been modded to the ends of the earth, great fun)

hm... SHIII is looking more and more tempting...:hmm:

I guess DW guys are lucky because AI routines in SH3 are hardcoded.

That's interesting. Would you say the stock SHIII AI is ok or is it predictable and boring? Has anyone tried to improve it?

NYGM doesn't change the AI routines (they are hardcoded), but it significantly changes the sensors that the AI can work with, making the game a lot more difficult/interesting.

If by playables you mean new subs - there is none yet. It is not possible to add new playable units the game's roster (at least with our current knowledge of the game mechanics), HOWEVER it is technically possible to replace an existing sub model with something else. Noone has done anything like that as yet, but it's almost certainly within reach.

SH3 is a good game but because of a hurry with the game publishing AI-routines were not fully developed, mostly limited to the duel between an escort and a player sub, and at the same time seem to be hardcorded. But we will keep digging and maybe some day find out the way to at least hex-edit some changes.
