Default Unique VIIB skin fix

In the shadow of TW2.0 I bring to you a fix on a problem I noticed escaped us for a while. There could be another version of it but as neither GW or TW1.3 had a fix I am assuming it has not been attended, till now.

All this time we have been using the same bloody skin for our Type VIIB AND VIIC. In my humble way I present a new texture that fits the VIIB accurately and is exclusive to it. Now you can have different skins for both!

This skin is a tweaked version of Fubar's U-552 and I give him a BIG cudos for such a great job!

Grab it here and thrill to having your VIIC and VIIB look different!

Here is a pic of the skin included:

This was fixed ages ago by me, I put up a VIIB.Dat file with the TGA changed from VIIC to VIIB. By now its long dead and buried (more so since it was in the old forums ), so tis good that its been brought into the light again. Well done, looks good!

Thanks for the support Commodore! I figured it didn't go this far without being noticed, altho I figured the major mods would have incorporated such an important discovery Ah well, here's to the future. Any other insights into this fix?

I didn't figure the BRk_GLASS.tga needed to be specific, altho I would love to find the Mask file ref and change it. Not to mention place the snorkle cover properly, the hole looks aweful.

The Snorkel cover is in the objects folder, IIRC I think I renamed that too ( either that or I cloned the thing and then renamed it ), the rest I just left as it was, didnt see the point in reinventing the wheel.

As to major mods, like so many bits, some times they just fall through the cracks, I'd suggest that when you have it as you want it, send a copy to both GW and NYGM. See if they are interested - the worst that can happen is a no anyway. And if that happens well ppl can always add it them selves because you have released it.

Even before that, the fix was discussed almost a year ago

It is very simple and there is no need to upload/download any files.

Simple for those who can use a hex editor Serg, you know that. The uploaded file was for those who cant! At about that same time ( In fact I think it was before that ) is when I did the file because of that very thing, not every 1 is cumffy usen a hex editor.

I hear you on ignoring the niggly bits, but I tend to be a bit of a perfectionist and like things uniform. I will have a look and see if I can't get 3DSMax working, maybe learn something in the process

Aye Serg, I think I may recall that particular discussion. Course the Commodore has it to rights mate, I was a plug and player at the beginning myself. It's only through desperation of a broken game and lack of mods I wanted that drove me to muck about with it anyway. Before SH3 I heard of hex editing and cringed But I see where you are coming from, when you know what to do and it is second nature it seems common sense. Still, with the new Textures I doctored up, its a full mod now.

So if you other folks are the plug and play types, go right ahead and enjoy an old mod, concieved by Gibs, mastered by Serg and tweaked by yours truly

Keep on modding!!

Totenkopf,

I just made the fix to my local version of the NSS_Uboat7.dat file using the XVI32 hex editor - I found it quite straightforward to use.

Excellent! Now you just have to fix up the VIIB skin to fit properly, unless you are using the stock texture that is. Alternatively, you could grab my mod which has the work already done and using a very fine skin by Fubar.

I uninstalled Furburs VIIC552 skin & put your VIIB skin in (JSGME reported 2 files clashing) but I end up with a pale green sub with pale blue conning tower! Any advise?
Thanks.

Hmm not sure, you didn't have to uninstall the VIIC as the mod has a new file for the VIIB. Make sure you have the NSS_Uboat7b_hull.tga in your ...data/textures/tnorm/tex directory as the new .dat files call to that texture instead of the VIIC one.

Hmmm

OK, if I try putting in you VIIB skin JSGME reports:
"mask_type7.tga" has already been altered by the "FUBARSVIIC U552" mod.
"UFlak_High.tga" has already been altered by the "FUBARSVIIC U552" mod.
If I remove "FUBARSVIIC U552" and put yours in then I the gray conning tower, and when your mod is in the "NSS_Uboat7b_hull.tga" file is there. Maybe the stock u-boat is green since Furbur's is blue, maybe I should put his in first then flatten his 2 files with yours.

Ah I see what is wrong. try installing mine without JSGME. The only files you don't realy need to have are the ones it is complaining about

Just unzip it and copy the data dir over top of the SH3 one, that is pretty much all JSGME does anyway. Try that and if you still get the green sub, take a pic and post it here so I can see what you see.
