Default Convoy from heaven!

Came across the best convoy last night - made up entirely of tankers! 20 of them! Oh - and a Fiji Light Cruiser who was in position with the tankers, not acting as an escort.

Even better their course was directly over top of me! Laid at 30m pretending to be a hole in the water - the lead destroyer went straight over top without noticing me.

Came up to PD behind the lead escort, 1000m from the lead tankers, two beautifull keel shots on the first two T3's, couldn't miss at this range. The last 2 forward fish into the Cruiser from 600m. The T3 *and* the Cruiser blew right up!

Sent the tail fish into the remaining T3, didn't kill it but broke it's engines Dove and disengaged, the escorts had a half-assed attempt to find me then took off after the remaining T2's and Small T's.

Once everything was quiet I surfaced and (being out of torps and running a U-Flak configuraion) finished off the T3 with my trusty M42-Twin.

Sounds absolutely amazing... I'm quite jealous actually. Also, about those half-assed escorts -- GET NYGM 2.0!

Yeah I find myself thanking Poisiden a few times too. The current convoy I'm chasing has 3 x T2s and 2 x T3s and a good assortment of C3s and C2s. Bad news is there's six destroyers and the weather has been perfect (I mean damn perfect, 0 wind, 0 fog) for five days now. I've tried to attack them five times now using different tactics, day and night, and I've been DCed and killed every time. I'm going to stick with it since I am really wondering whether in the end its best to let this one go. It's late 43 BTW.

That was odd actually, usually the escorts swarm all over me for ages. The previous convoy I was dodging 5 escorts for nearly a day. Each time I thought I'd disengaged one would get a sniff and they'd all be all over me again.

This convoy though the escorts took one pass, didn't even dc, then took off after the tankers.

Maybe I scared em

In a wonderful stroke of luck I just came across a convoy almost EXACTLY like yours! Only difference: Instead of a cruiser there is a liner! I'm so damn excited -- I sank a Liberty Cargo, submerged, and I'm currently waiting out a DC attack (could be ages with NYGM 2.0) at 160 meters. As soon as things quiet down IM GOIN AFTER THAT LINER! Lusitania all over again .

Oooh, Liners are nice. Got one by mistake the other night, was typical horrible weather, could hardly see past the bow of the boat. Got in front of a convoy, couldn't see squat, so as the sonar lines passed my bow I fired off a 4 spread salvo.

3 booms seconds apart - odd, must have hit something big. Crept in to 400m, a disabled Liner! Woot! Ended up diving to 40m and hiding underneath it! (Using ob scope to position) The thing was so bi I had no trouble sitting there while the escorts went spastic.

Eventually everyone left, leaving me alone with the Liner. Took 2 more torps to sink the damn thing though!

Nice work sacs!

I play the stock game, use to play RUB and other realism mods but gone back to the stock as i wanna bit of fun, dont know if your playing just the stock game, as i get convoys like the one you mentioned quite often.

Around 1943 onwards the destroyers aren't that stupid any more

Oh i do have one mod enabled and thats SH3 Commander.

Was it the one in the AM grid in 44? if so I had this convoy before my boat was a complete wreck by the time I finished.

Your lucky every time I sink one of them monsters they must be carrying ammo or fuel many a time I lost crew men and even boats by comeing in too close to finish them off.

Yep. Early '44 somewhere near AM15, just South of Eire.

I noticed your post in the mods forum that you're having problems with your watch crew spotting ships. Just wondering if you'd found a solution for that by any chance?
