Default Let me Introduce Myself

Hello to All,

I,m new to this Forum and I would like to introduce myself.
My Online NICK in SH3 is HunterICX
My real name is Wim.
born in '87
My nationality is Dutch, but I live in Spain.

and I play Silent Hunter 3 for a while now.
so let me share my Experiences and I have some questions:

Campain Experience:

Few, only have Bad experience with it, like going out of the harbor I opened my Bottle of beer , (headphones off) and suddently i look at my screen and see 2 planes dropping bombs on me....Sunk ofcourse...

Campain question:
How do you guys play the Campain? Wich flotilla and wich year?
and do you use that 2x > 512 X speed? to let the time pass quikly.

Online Experience:

Good: Well , Me and 3 Friends that played sometimes but now they are hardly in for a nice Subbattle....
we completed the Taskforce on hard Heavy damages to use but we managed to sink that last enemy ship

Bad experience: Well...played an Generated game, and the first thing I noticed....Iceberg all around use....Hot Damn...then I got rammed by an friendly Submarine and after that I directly hitted an Iceberg that made Floodings in my Ship...and Yep I Sunk.

Also people are an bunch of amatuers....Map starts...and after 2 minutes aproaching our Victims, behind me they start Torpedo Spamming like it was their last chance to survive.....and ofcourse they fired the RED headed Torpedo (FAT?= that they track any propulsion) so one of those Redheads from an friendly sub hit me in the Electric engine room and ofcourse some flooding...repaired it...left Propulsion still worked THANK GOD YIHAA back to action...but then 1 second later ''German: The ship is Damaged!!!'' God dammit an second redhead torpedo hitted me...Screwed the whole electric engin room so I was just swimming their like an Rubber Ducky....and I didnt go up...Who would if 1000 meter away from you 2 destroyers are just waiting to give you an welcome party...hell no..i just layed there and finally my Dumb Friendlies shot down the last destroyers...time to blow ballast..could use my Diesels Again...lets take the last couple of merchants....''Ship Damaged!!!'' and 3rd Torpedo and after that again ''Ship Damaged'' 4th bloody Redhead Torpedo hitted me in the back totally destroyed my diesels......So...really...I asked myself ...does god hate me when i,m in a Submarine? Answer : **** Yeah!

And now time for my Questions :

-What is the Best way to find Online SH3 games? (currently using Ubi.com but too few person playing actually and 20 % dont know that the firewall blocks the entrance for other players)
-What is the Best Submarine in the game (Type) (Year) and Why?
-What is the Best Campain to play?
-I tried everyting to Avoid detection under water...but still they know to find me....I press ''Z'' silent run and I shut off my engins what do i forget?

Thank you for your Time

Hi Wim, and welcome aboard!

Yes, I do - most do, except for few real hard-core types. They also sit with wet hair in front of their PC in bad weather!

Time compression is OK, but use it with care: If running on the surface in range of planes, they will hit you so fast you'll never know what happened. Stick to TC 128 max in those areas.

I can't comment on online gaming, have never tried it.

Hi welcome. I'm not a pro at this game, so I'd listen to other people more than me. I just can't help giving my two cents about anything. :P

Never played on line, but as far as the other stuff:

1939 - 7th (I think, whatever gives you a VIIB to start is okay by me)

Yes with the Time Compression. You have to. I do it as fast as I can. Right now that's 4096x or something.

VIIB is really an amazing boat for 1939. And is still good a couple of years later. And you can keep upgrading the engines and whatnot.
It doesn't carry that many eels, but still, a great boat. Great range for 1939, GREAT underwater range (again, with upgrades to the battery). And it's more agile than the larger boats that come later.
You can make a lot of hay in the first couple of years of the war with her.

I've only ever done 1939 to start. Next time I may do one later in the war, as it's about 1000x harder, and I don't think I'm very good from just playing the early years.

Running silent is good, and hopefully you do that before you are very close to any ships, and not just after you are detected. But you don't need to stop your engines. Running at the slowest speed should keep you silent enough.
Later in the war they are going to detect you without noise, so don't stop the engines. Get away at slow speed if you can. Dive very deep.
Also, once they drop their depth charges you can speed up a little for a minute or two as they can't really listen with all those cans exploding.

I find it also helps to change direction and/or depth when you do that. I usually try and make a 90 degree turn (keeping mindful of other escorts, of course) when a destroyer is coming close, in conjunction with flank speed. That seems to work fairly well at keeping them from getting me. It works best with the Type II's, and fairly well with the Type VII's. Don't know about the IX's, and of course with the Type XXI's you can just outrun them...

*Sniff*

I set my TC on 256X (i,m afraid 512 or 1024 will cause problems)
got 2,8 ghz, 512 DDR ram, Geforce FX5700LE 256 TD DDR ram

But anyway how do you guys last so long lonely handling ur ship without a nice chat or something or is there someone that used Teamspeak especialy to Chit Chat while doing the career?

I've got 2.93 GHz and 504 RAM and have no problems at 1000TC.

Really I'm not even supposed to be able to play I guess. But I really don't have any problems at all.
